I have been coming to olives for several years. The food remains fantastic. And the hospitality lovely. I preferred the town venue but will keep going back. It is rare to find a restaurant where the owners take such pride in their craft.

We read about this place on TA and decided to try it as it was so close to our hotel. Very friendly welcome and excellent service throughout the dining experience. The restaurant is run by two brothers one the chef the other serving us. The chef came out to make sure we were happy with the food. Noticed previous comment... More

Having had several nights out at local restaurants, serving rather large portions, we were attracted to Olives by previous reviewers' promises of smaller portions with more refined food. We were surprised to see how few tables were taken on entering the restaurant but we took our seats, with sea views, and nibbled on complimentary mini toasts with cream cheese and... More

We visited twice when we were only in Madeira for one week: the first time was so good. As others have said, it could look better; ignore this! The views are great, the service friendly and attentive, the food lovely. If, like us, you know little about Portuguese wine, ask the co-owner/waiter to recommend: he wont default to the most... Good food but very small portions, even by top London restaurant standards, and expensive by local standards

We stumbled upon the Olives whilst out for a walk one evening. Its simply inside with sea view in between two hotels with gentle jazz in the background. It has windows all the way around which open for nice cooling breeze. The Chef grows herbs all round and can be seen picking them for his dishes The owners are two... More

We have had dinner several times at Olives, both when they were in the center of Funchal and after they moved to the Lido area. The food is consistently very good, made with focus on ingredients that are in season, with interesting and well balanced combinations of tastes. The prices are reasonable and excellent value for this quality of food... More

Fantastic medditerenian cuisune, very nice service, good Madeira wine, reasonable prices. We had a chance to meet the chef, who is a very friendly person. Great job!

I have eaten at Olives several times. The food is exceptional - presented with passion and flair. The service is second to none - friendly but professional. These brothers take pride in what they do. The price does not reflect the work that goes in to elegantly presented meals.

The food is excellent. Freshly baked bread and perfectly cooked fish. Try the chocolate moelleux for dessert - if you like chocolate you won't be disappointed. We liked the place so much we went back for a second visit. It's not the snazziest of restaurants but everything is clean and tidy, and the staff are very friendly - even the... More
