Olives Restaurant is influenced by many different cuisines, as Madeiran cuisine is, all under the same interpretation, the Mediterranean cuisine, in which Portugal and Madeira have the major influence. In our space you can choose from two different sets, interior, around a foyer with a beautiful art deco/nouveaux inspired staircase, or the outside terrace with a view for the city market area and Funchal cruise port.

wonderfull view and dishes

I choosed the vegetarian menu, and i was amazed. Wonderfull color vegies and simple flavours, and all combined with a nice balcony view of the city center. Not a noisy city, for moments, it could be in venice, it could be in Paris.. but no it's Funchal city. I will return.

The Olives was by far the best restaurant we visited in Funchal. Don't be put off by the absence of vegetarian items on the menu, as they do cater for vegetarians, and my partner said his meal was the best he'd had for the whole week! The other dishes too are creative, different, and delicious. The chef is very talented,... More

We found this restaurant at the top of so called shopping centre just passed the market. For the first hour we were the only ones in the restaurant when two others came in .So there was no atmosphere. However the food was really good and well presented. The service was excellent and the chef checked all ok as the meal progressed. I... More

Popped in here today for lunch, was very quiet buy Louis the owner made us extremely comfortable and chatted for ages about the island and things not to miss.... Even wrote them down for us. He spent a few years in Bournemouth so he English accent was better than mine! The food was great, my wife had seafood pasta and... More

We found Olives restaurant when we stayed in Funchal last year. The food was excellent, so on our recent return visit to Funchal we went in search of their new Restaurant, now located in a very interesting building near the market. It is easy to find. Take the lift, or the beautiful staircase to the third floor and you will... More

We only made it for lunch this trip but enjoyed seeing Louis in his new location near the fish market. As usual the food was superb and we will certainly be visiting for dinner when we return in June.

We have eaten at Olives on numerous occasions when they were in the Lido area, but this was our first visit to their new restaurant. The food was excellent as usual...fine dining and really enjoyable. Unfortunately the restaurant was lacking in customers and therefore atmosphere which was a real pity. We hope they will make a go of it as... More

Every visit to Olives in Funchal is a special experience. Luis, the owner, is a very talented chef and offers innovative and delicious food cooked from the very best ingredients and fresh herbs grown on the restaurant terrace. The services is friendly and efficient and the atmosphere unique. Just up the road from the market, this lovely terrace restaurant, is... More
