We have been to Funchal every year for 15 years and love the place. Olives is the best restaurant of all. The food is perfectly cooked and beautifully laid out. We've been living on Madeira the last 5 years. Obviously during this past 5 years we have been well briefed by the local food connoisseurs about the delights of places like Armazem do Sal, Mozarts etc. In our opinion you pay for a picture on a plate - in other words tourist hotspots. This brings us back to Olives, we've... More

We ate here on several evenings of our stay and the food was always superb. The presentation of the dishes was excellent, the service friendly and helpful, and the house wine was delicious. We are almost counting the days until our next visit. The icing on the cake is that the prices are very reasonable. Probably they should slightly upgrade... More

We picked the restaurant based on the good TripAdvisor ratings. We were the only guests that night, it was off-season early February. It is located in the hotel district of Funchal, which one must like. The food itself was good, the service also ok. Overall nothing outstanding, the pricing was reasonable. I guess we simply had higher expectations from what... More

Special occasion? Holiday treat? Just a lover of good food? Then you are a fool if you miss a chance to eat here. This candlelit restaurant does friendly, unobtrusive service at its best. From the opening welcome, helpful advice on meal and wine choice, a visit from the chef checking all was satisfactory with the meal, to a cheery goodbye,... More

The service was not great considering there were only us six in the restaurant the starter and main course were disappointing. However the dessert chocolate fondant was fantastic.

We went here after reading the good reviews. The pkace was quiet and we were waited on quickly. There was some nice bread served with various butters all were very nice especially the olive butter. Both of our meals were nice but nothing special. The sauces served were good but there was only a small portion of each. Very nice... More

I would like to congratulate Louis and Tito for another great experience, a 7 course meal complimented by copious amounts of their fine house wine, before bussing us to Barcelo for a fantastic view of Funchal one of the best places to see the fireworks and bring in the new year with champagne. We then returned to the restaurant for... More

We have been meaning to try Olives for some time (we live in Madeira) and we were not disappointed by the food which was excellent. When we arrived, a party of five, there was no one there to welcome us which was very poor as we had booked. It was January and the place was very cold, bleak and lacking... More
