Hope this is only a temporary closure

Having recently returned from Madeira, I can confirm that Olive's has closed and that the premises are being prepared for another venture. I understand from members of the family (Paula's Bistro) that the brothers, Luis and Tito, are looking for another location in which to re-open again but have... read more

Having recently returned from Madeira, I can confirm that Olive's has closed and that the premises are being prepared for another venture. I understand from members of the family (Paula's Bistro) that the brothers, Luis and Tito, are looking for another location in which to re-open again but have yet to find somewhere suitable. I hope it doesn't take too... More

I understand from a friend that Olives has closed BUT it would appear that it is only temporary and that it will be reopening in a new location.

Olives is on a stretch of road with many competitors but it is worth seeking out. Inventive riffs on Maderian classics, the team of brothers, Tito and Luis run a worthy enterprise. Luis has a strong pedigree from classic hotel restaurants in England so his cooking has style as well as substance. Tito is a committed Madeiran and will describe... More

We always visit Olives when in Funchal for the good food and friendly service. However, were disappointed on this visit as we did not receive the usual friendly welcome. The starter portions seemed smaller and we asked for some bread, having refused it earlier. We were surprised at the small portion we were served, although it was beautifully presented with... More

Walking into this restaurant I wondered if I had made a mistake. It is very plain and functional, rather down market. The table cloth had holes in it and the napkins were frayed. The menu was plain and boring but the welcome was genuine. The chef brought our bread with an interesting selection of flavoured butters and things were then... More

Enjoyed an excellent meal here at Olives. We have looked at it several times whilst in Funchal but never gone in . So glad we did as we will definately be eating there again when we are next visitng Madeira. The service was friendly and polite. The meal was presented beautifully like a top quality restuarant , the chef obviously... More

We have been to Funchal every year for 15 years and love the place. Olives is the best restaurant of all. The food is perfectly cooked and beautifully laid out. Amazing quality were it twice the price. Friendly helpful service. Good music not too loud. Rather plain decor, needs some decorative plants.

We ate here on several evenings of our stay and the food was always superb. The presentation of the dishes was excellent, the service friendly and helpful, and the house wine was delicious. We are almost counting the days until our next visit. The icing on the cake is that the prices are very reasonable. Probably they should slightly upgrade... More

We picked the restaurant based on the good TripAdvisor ratings. We were the only guests that night, it was off-season early February. It is located in the hotel district of Funchal, which one must like. The food itself was good, the service also ok. Overall nothing outstanding, the pricing was reasonable. I guess we simply had higher expectations from what... More
