Wonderful, quiet little treasure tucked away!

What a fabulous find! This wonderful restaurant used by local business people was an accidental find for us whilst we were just meandering the backstreets of Funchal. We sat in the covered "alleyway" between two buildings,(sounds peculiar but I assure you that it adds to the charm) There is also a... read more

Currently on our 16th visit to Madeira we have tried many of the local restaurants but I have to say the Armazem do Sal excels. With its wine meal package at 39 Euros it offers excellent value for money and it's staff are attentive and the whole operation runs like a well oiled machine. The attention to details is first... Haute cuisine of a very high standard and beautifully presented. Go for the fixed price deal which gives you full choice from the a la carte menu for €30 and specially selected wines for an additional €9. Don't expect the selected wines to be of the same calibre as the food but for the price it's a snip.

...because you will certainly want to visit again. Staff attentive and friendly, food absolutely fabulous. Look at the menu online before you go, so you have an idea. We chose the €39 deal which included wines with each a la carte course, it was so worth it. The wines matched the courses perfectly, the food was beautifully presented and full... More

We took the set deal to include wines for each course. Good introductions of well-chosen wines by the Sommelier. Good choice from menu. Haute cuisine with the dishes being well-presented. Staff were attentive. Suggest asking to sit in the inner area as a non-smoker.

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Went for the set price option of start, main and dessert (you could choose any from the a la carte menu!) - 30 Euros without wine, 39 Euros with. Bottled water was included in the prices. I had the with wine option and that included an aperitif of Madeira wine then suggested wines... More

We stayed two weeks in Madeira over Christmas and went to this place twice. The food is excellent and innovative. Wine list is good with nice Portuguese options and presided over by a young, enthusiastic, smiling Sommelier. Prices are reasonable but on the higher side for Madeira. Only two very minor grumbles were some of the waiting staff came across... More

I had dinner here with friends after reading "TA" reviews ... The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere; attentive, personable staff, a small but appropriately varied menu, including vegetarian/vegan foods. The food was of an excellent standard with unusual choices. We also appreciated advice on wine choices. And very much enjoyed the recommendations! The evening was made for me by the... More

What a fantastic restaurant. The food was beautifully presented and wonderful. Great service and lovely live music creating a magical atmosphere. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to anywhere, not just in Funchal.

We had the fixed priced menu, where also the selected wines were included. The whole set was perfect for both of us. The atmosphere and the decoration in the restaurant was also very nice.
