Description: The Armazem do Sal Restaurant is located in an old building, which has a history that dates over two hundred Years. In its inception it served to store salt, then a commodity, for Madeira's population. This imposing structure made of basalt flagstones and massive wooden beams takes you to quite a distant past. The Armazem do Sal Restaurant offers a traditional menu with a modern twist, with a variety of items prepared by our young Chef Roberto Barros and his team. All of this is enjoyed with carefully selected wines, an exquisite service and live music daily for a memorable experience. The 39€ set meal option (30€ without the wine pairing) is very good value. Amazing choices for the set meal - hot and cold starters, pasta dishes, soups, seafood and meat. Chefs specials for 8€ extra. Everything we ate was fresh, cooked to perfection and served beautifully garnished and decorated. Decent portions too! The wine pairing was nicely done and... More

Last year we visited and one of the drawbacks was the imposition of live music. Unfortunately (from my perspective) that persists but at least we were moved to a table where we could hold conversations with our companion. The service improved from our previous visit. On this occasion the food was excellent-if over elaborate in its presentation.

Found this restaurant by chance in the middle of our second week. What a find! Amazing food in a lovely building. Lots of choice in the 39E package. Beautiful presented food with the most wonderful flavours. Live background music made a lovely atmosphere. Staff really attentive without being over so. Went twice in the week and were just sorry in... More

Ate here on our first evening of our 4 night stay and loved it so much we went back on our last evening too! Wonderful interior, excellent service and above all fabulous food and wine. We had the 39 euro set menu and the choices available for all 3 courses was great- of particular note was the chocolate volcano dessert... More

I have eaten in some very fine restaurants over the years, but this one takes some beating. My wife and I are both fine wine fans, and were keen to try the fixed price menu with wine pairings. I must say we were not disappointed. However, the star of the show really was the food. I started with Fois Gras... More

It has been a pleasure. The staff completely client oriented. You feel welcomed. The food is great. Mostly Madeira's typical Food «reworked» with international techniques. A little bit pricey for Madeira's standards but nothing that you would regret! Seriously, it was a pleasure. I even forgot that I had the Flu, because they managed to find me and my wife... More

We arrived in Funchal on Monday and we have tried several of the restaurants near our hotel (Vila Vicencia) but on Friday night we decided to move our search area to the "old town" area of Funchal. We did the usual thing of scouting around and trying to dodge the food touts and I was beginning to loose faith until... More

We went here on our first night in Funchal and chose the €39 selection. These are definitely the way to go if you are hungry and like a gargle of wine with your meal. Not that easy to find - the street is very long if you start from the wrong end but I'm glad we persevered. After bit of... More
