Description: A traditional country pub, in a idyllic surrounding. Set in the peaceful village of Chacombe, the George and Dragon is only 1 mile from junction 11 of the M40. The George and dragon is the perfect place for all occasions, whether it be for entertaining corporate lunches during the day, cosy dinners, family get togethers or a drink with your friends. The pub dates back to the 17th century and still has original beams and fire places. During an extension 20 years ago a hidden well was discovered, which has long become a big attraction of the pub, along with the unique brass bar. There is a large patio area which can seat up to 40 people during the long and thirsty summer months.

Just popped in today for a very quick bite to eat as we were in the area. First time here for us and we'll definitely come back, although a bit of a trek from home. Lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere, very pleasant woman at the bar, and excellent fish cakes & sweet potato chips!

We arrived a on a wet miserable day but were warmly welcomed into the restaurant. They have just gone onto the winter menu offering an excellent choice of traditional 'comforting' pub food. We had the Beef Carbonnade which was just what was required considering the weather outside. This was followed by a sticky toffee pud for me and a chocolate... More

This is only a few miles from the M40 at the Banbury exit. It has great pub food and is very reasonable indeed, Lovely village and a warm welcome. It has won many awards in recent years. Miles better than a service station!! It is what it is but it does it really well.

Visited this lovely country pub with a pal to-day. We had reserved a table but we started with a drink by the welcoming fire. The welcome was warm and genuine. The food was equally attractive from a wide and interesting menu. We both chose a delicious Prawn Cocktail starter which was packed with excellent prawns. My companion had the Pie... More

Myself and my partner have visited here twice in the past and the experience has been a good one. However our most recent visit I have to say was appalling. Our table was booked for 8pm and we ordered by 8.15pm. The starters arrived and they were average. We are not ones for rushing our food when out for dinner... More

Like most reviews here we visited this restaurant as a result of Trip Adviser Reviews and travelling on to Ludlow, Shropshire, it is just off the M40 and definitely worth a visit. We met up with friends there as a midway point travelling from North Essex. We sat outside at first as the weather was lovely, and we ate inside... More

Great little find, good atmosphere in an old country pub. Food was lovely and such huge portion sizes. Obviously a locals pub but didn't feel intrusive at all.
