Not fancy sauces, but good ingredients beautifully cooked. I had octopus cooked perfectly with oil and garlic, served with delicious little potatoes. DH had swordfish with bananas, an unusual combination which worked well. Both were served with broccoli which was a pleasant surprise for Portugal where veg often don't feature much in restaurants. DH enjoyed almond tart for pudding, and... More

Our hotel recommended Dom Pipas in Sintra (near the train station) and I'm so glad they did. I was at first hesitant about the location, but I'm glad we persevered and sought out Dom Pipas. We ate there twice on our three day stay in Sintra. Their veal in port wine sauce was one of my favourite meals of our... More

Our favourite restaurant from our trip to Portugal - simple, tasty food, reasonably priced, with friendly service - highly recommended.

We went to Dom Pipas as it was in the Lonely Planet as one of the suggested place to eat. It did not indicate that it is a dinner only type of place, when we got there at around 11:30am, the man inside was setting up some tables and chairs and I politely asked if he was open. He said... More

We walked a good 30-minute from our hotel in the center of Sintra to get to this restaurant, based on comments we had read on TripAdvisor and elsewhere. We were quite disappointed. First, the restaurant is located very close to the train station, in an uninteresting neighbourhood. Second, there was a large screen TV behind the bar, which we totally... More

Following the many recommendations from TA we went out of our way (literally) to find this traditional Portuguese restaurant, a good 10-15 minutes’ walk from the National Palace of Sintra. Simple but friendly décor, good service. I had the garoupa (a kind of sea bass or grouper) which was superb, my wife had the cozido (cooked meat with boiled vegetables)... More

This appears to be a family run restaurant that is a local favorite. Smaller in size it allows the attentive staff to stay on top of their guests needs. The food is delicious and reasonable in price. I had the house specialty; squid, shrimp and ham. It was great. My wife had the seafood in rice and it was delicious.... More

Traditional local restaurant away from the tourist trail but well worth the effort of seeking it out. Very good service, delicious prawns with rice. Local customers in and out , friendly atmosphere, quality food at reasonable prices.

I've been living in Portugal for more than three years and Dom Pippas has to be one of my favourite restaurants so far. The food is of very good quality and reasonably priced. I recommend the bacalhau or monkfish and prawn rice. I will be back!
