surprising place in the hart of Belem

as part of a visit to Belem, our guide pointed out the eating place Casa Pasteis de Belem. So we took the advice and went in. What a surprise: the place is inside much bigger than it looked from outside. It is a very typical restaurant and the pasteis are delicious. A recommendation and not... read more

Always crowded, the restaurant does not look so clean and the food is not so good. I will not return. It's just a trap for tourists...

No visit to Lisbon is complete without sampling the wares at Pasteis be Belem. The take away queue is very off-putting so go inside, sit down and enjoy several things of sticky bun nature. Early morning a gallao (milky coffee) and a couple of Pastel de Nata make a great breakfast

Very yummy! The best pastel de nata I had in Portugal, not expensive at all. Very nice place and they do take-away too.

Warm fresh tarts always just out of the oven due to the popularity and lines. We found a seat in the back to enjoy a coffee and tart before starting our day in Belem but if in a hurry the lines look long but move fast. Wrote about our full time in Lisbon if you need more travel tips on... More

That heading sums it all up! I tried them in Porto, Obidos, Aveiro, Sintra, Coimbra and Lagos and a few more cities but this is the most divine of them all! There is a huge queue to get these but its most sensible (as mentioned in many other previous reviews) to just go in and grab a table cause they... More

Some Portuguese friends told us that we either had to go to Pasteis de Belem, or lie and say we did, because no visit to Lisbon would be complete without this. They gave us a tip which I'm giving you here... When you arrive, you'll see a HUGE line/crowd. That's for the take out version of this place. If you... More

This place obviously doesn’t need any more reviews: it’s common knowledge that it’s excellent. But I can’t resist sharing my experience with you, anyway! I’ve been a regular Pastéis de Belém fan for about ten years. It’s the first thing on my agenda every time I visit Lisbon. Not only beacause of those heavenly custard tarts but also because it's... This has got to be the busiest cafe I have ever visited and I can understand why. The custard tarts are out of this world and well worth the wait. The cafe is huge and your best bet is to walk past the queues at the takeaway section and continue walking to the bag of the old, tiled building until... More
