Run by German and Austrian ladies the atmosphere is truly unique for Lisbon, Gemütlich, Gezellig, Cosy... Their "Schwarzwalder Kirch Torte" is one of a kind, always served with a gentle and inviting smile. Decorated in style with old mismatching furniture and sofas. Many international locals and guests have discovered this place, so there's a metropolitan air to the conversations. The... More

Recommended by local friend, I stopped there by pure coïncidence passing in front of it. I had a long walk in the Alfama under the rain and I needed a cup of coffee. Here, a backpacker atmosphere. Smiley staff speaks good english and invites you to relax. I had a coffee, a Basilic toast and a slice of cheesecake. Really... More

It's been a few years since I first found this great place tucked behind Lisbon's cathedral. The atmosphere of the place is very special. With a simple decoration made up of a seemingly random mix of old pieces of furniture and a big old hall that might have been a wharehouse hundred years ago they skillfully created a comfy ambiance... Stop in here to read a book, have a drink, it's a lot funkier and cosier than a lot of cafes in the area. Last time I went in, a jazz band set up and started playing while I sat there reading and chatting... nice. Only problems were the alcoholic drinks are expensive, and the waiting staff aren't always on... More

Stumbled upon Pois Cafe totally by chance having been wandering around the fascinating Alfama district on a Sunday morning. The moment we peeped round the door we could see it looked an interesting stop for lunch and we were lucky enough to get a seat strait away despite it being very busy. Many bars and restaurants are closed on Sundays... More

As others have said, Pois Cafe has a very relaxed, chilled-out vibe, which is somewhat unique for the area. It feels very welcoming. However my partner and I were not overwhelmed by the food; it was just okay. We split a sandwich and the Lebanese platter of the day for lunch (platter included hummus, meatballs, salad, etc.). Although it was... More

It is located in the Alfama district. It offers quite a unique atmosphere. The waiters are nice, quick. The speeks several languages. The cakes are good. It is a very laid back atmosphere. You can easily read a book or have a pleasant conversation without needing to talk aloud like in some other restaurants.

The café is down the street on the south side of the cathedral, a gentrified spot in Alfama. The furniture is as eclectic as the menu and invites spending time under the vaulted stone arches. The ancient stone floor probably pre-dates the great earthquake of 1755. The service is enormously pleasant. The owner chatted with us, and the waiters clearly... More
