Pure class! Superb old-school service, great surroundings, food very good

A beautiful restaurant with impeccable style and manners. Food typical Portuguese, not "high-class" and thus on the pricey side for the quality, but here you pay for the surroundings, the atmosphere, the service. A most amazing Irish coffee was served in front of us....this had to be seen to be... read more

Food typical Portuguese, not "high-class" and thus on the pricey side for the quality, but here you pay for the surroundings, the atmosphere, the service. Recommended by our hotel as the best seafood restaurant in Lisbon, this place was so bad we thought money must have changed hands! Seriously, though, we had two courses of average food at best and were in and out in 50 minutes - clearly a volume model. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone at anytime. Simply atrocious. This is a must if you go to Lisbon and you want to experience their cuisine. Ober kellner was so friendly and helpful with food and wine. Atmosphere is calm and we really enjoyed watching what are other people eating because every meal is different and served on a spectacular way. It is a bit expensive if you choose expensive... More

As a New Yorker, I am accustomed to excellent restaurants. In the Lisbon Restauradores district, Mom and I went in search of a restaurant without pictures of the food with translations and an over-assertive host out front. We found a gem in Gambrinus. This place is old-school and graciously so. We learned it opened in 1946. The place is covered... More

I read great reviews on this restaurant and made a reservation before I arrived in Lisbon. The Maitre D' recommended the Cataplana (item of cookware used to prepare Portuguese seafood dishes) Seafood. It had lobster, shrimps, etc. and it is a dish for two. It was cooked with an amazing sauce with potatoes. It was probably one of the best... More

Restaurant got great reviews, but my experience was poor -- dining solo they choice to stick me in a corner -- a tight corner. Hotel concierge made the reservation so one would think they would be more accommodating. Other tables were open but they basically refused to move me -- said they were booked. Had the food been spectacular (it was... More

5 of us had a very good dinner at Gambrinus a few weeks ago. Unfortunately we got off to a bad start and considered leaving. The wine steward recovered, came back to the table and started over with good humor. The chairs were uncomfortable and folks out on the busy pedestrian streets seemed to be having more fun than we... I can't complain about the food or the service both were very good , but it is a formal dining setting and not what we would usually choose to frequent.

Lovely restaurant with a nice old ambiance, nice service, I went with the bartender's recommendation for the food and drink, the house white wine was good, and as a big fan of sea food I thought I can't go wrong with anything so I had the sea bass with tartar sauce, which was disappointing for the money that I knew...
