great food, somewhat overpriced

The food was wonderful. The service was top-notch. But so were the prices. If you are looking to splurge on a meal (high-quality cuisine), this is a great choice. The decor was very nice, with a lovely fireplace and other accents. It is a romantic restaurant.

Great Bacalhau, other Portuguese dishes, from bread to wine, including an excellent serve, Gambrinus is the place not to miss when wanting to have an excellent Portuguese food experience. Ideal for a quiet business lunch or a romantic dinner

The service is great and the food is of great quality too. Honestly, what i really like is to sit at the counter, ask for a tap beer, some shrimp and a prego (steak sandwich?). Its not that expensive if you factor in the 5 star service, and makes me feel like a million bucks :)

Gambrinus is an institution in Lisbon and when I lived there in the 1980's I went there several times a week, on business and for pleasure. On a visit back to Lisbon I had to see if it was the same and fortunately it was. Old fashioned, old money, same food, same service, same staff. You can eat in the... More

Good service but very old fashioned and the food quality mediocre at best and pricey. I thought maybe I just ordered poorly but then I noticed all the other tables had equally unappetizing food. Then, I kid you not, the kid at the next table threw up all over the place and I could only laugh. Try elsewhere.

This is a fine restaurant with fresh fish prepared very well. It is very expensive, relative to my experiences in other dining establishments in Portugal. Our meal was very nice. The atmosphere in the restaurant very pleasant and without the clamour of tourists. Our only concern was the lack of attention by the wait staff after they served us the... More

The food was great and the service impecable! The Sole was fresh and delicious, The Roastbeef was equally good except for the soggy Yorkshire pudding and the seafood soup was a delicious. The wine list was very good but expensive and all the waiters were very professional, friendly and attentive. The Crepe Suzette, apart fro being always a good show,... More

I struggle with too many touristy restaurants, so decided to book here in the hope it would be a bit more enjoyable and less pressurised. It was worth it! Staff were welcoming and well informed. A lovely meal of sea bass with clam sauce, decent wine and 'sinful' desserts. Maybe not as cheap as the places mentioned in the first... More

Seafood grill for two was just the right amount of food. It's very shrimp and prawn heavy. Waiters do a "kiss kiss" to let colleagues know they are in their blind spot when waiting, which was amusing.

The food is perfect. The manner of service and staff are unique. The very low level of quality. Food is prepared in front of guests and services on special plates

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
