Worth the Spurluge

Everything was perfect. The staff was super friendly. It is old style elegant. Many waiters serve you and clearly they have their specialties--the waiter who tossed the salad did it to perfection as strange as that may sound. There are great wines in all ranges. Their bread is beyond good. We... read more

Everything is great in this place. You feel like you've been taken to a different era where nothing but outstanding service is the rule. For me it's all about seating in the bar and have the best beer in town, the best croquetes and the Prego. Seating at the restaurant is good also but for me seating at the bar... More

You can tell this place has been around a long time. It's much different than all the "tourist" places that surround it near the Rossio square. Since I was dining alone I skipped the nice main rooms and ate at the bar. It was a pleasure to be service by consummate professional barmen who clearly took pride in their work.... More

I dislike being suggested the most expensive choices, from starters to wines and desserts. And they do it every time ! My grilled fish was excellent, the vegetables overcooked. My partner´s grilled steak looked reasonable. Most of his vegetables were cubed....I know them well and they came from a commercial freezer !

I visited recently and renewed my acquaintance with this excellent restaurant. I was not disappointed. This is the most enjoyable old fashioned Lisbon restaurant. One can almost see Salazar sitting at the next table, and I bet the place ran the same back then. There are two things that put one off - but they shouldn't, just ignore! The first... More

Gambrinus is an excellent restaurant which seems to be oriented towards local business and professional people (the latter is not intended as a criticism). The warmth and professionalism of the service is impeccable. The advice about food and wine was very helpful and helped us to enjoy our dinner. I had smoked swordfish followed by lobster pie with green salad,... More

This is in downtown Lisbon. The restaurant is surrounded by 100 tourist traps. Do ignore all the guys you see that try to invite you to their restaurants. Even when it looks good it is not. Gambrinus is different. Based on the quality of raw materials, it is usually considered (fairly) one of the best restaurants in Lisbon - and... More

We asked our concierge to make a reservation, we went with mu husband and two daughters and they sat us... In the middle of our dinner we start smelling cigarrettes smoke around us and it was very uncomfortable! We finished our food, which was good and payed (very expensive for the smoke) and we talked to the maitredee.. He started... More

The standards of all their cooking is high especially the fish. Their sole was excellent this time but the fresh Atlantic Wild Sea Bass last time was memorable. Don't be tempted by having too much oven baked bread and butter - leave plenty of room for generous portions. If you have room have the classical Crepe Suzettes served professionally and... More
