Description: On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of...
On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of its finest. Hosts Duarte Santos and Ana Marina treat guests as family and the homely ambiance is warming and inviting. The homemade gastronomy is noted for its textures and flavours and generous portions, with the seafood cataplana (stew) a much-lauded feast. The menu is limited, but here it's all about the quality of the food. As for the entertainment, this is local fado at its most authentic -- the singers and musicians have known each other for years, and the performance is heartfelt and genuine. Quite often, diners are invited to join in which makes the evening truly memorable.

Personal Fado in the Alfama

This was a small and personal experience. The owners cook for you, then sing for you, making you feel like you're visiting their home. The Pork and Clams is divine and the music is beautiful too.

The hosts were both gracious and welcoming however the food was average. The service was slow and the owner, Duante, appeared to be overwhelmed and in need of some assistance. The venue was overcrowded, hot and the chairs were extremely uncomfortable for the 4 plus hours that you are there. The show did not start for another 45-60 minutes after... More

when you made the reservation, definitely read the comments, or read and should not be based only on the classification to see if that was what you wanted. First I have to tell you that Duarte only shown when tired is with people like you, people who do not appreciate nothing cultures they visit, you're just a tourist with curiosity,... More

Sr. Fado is not a "normal" fado's house. And because of that it is so special. It's like Ana Marina and Duarte's home. The food is fresh and really great. The music fantastic. Much more than a restaurant or a "show house", Sr. Fado is a real portuguese experience. If you are looking for real things, you have To know... More

We had made reservations for this restaurant/fado song place by email a few days ahead which proved very wise as all 25 seats where indeed booked. The food they served was according to Portuguese cuisine and looked good, however we ran into a dietary snag. As my wife does not eat crustaceans we asked for just baccalau (cod) however when... We had a fantastic night out for fabulous dinner and breathtaking fado. The owner familiy is really living the fado culture and the typical portugese dinner was fantastic. We will recommend this unique fado place anytime.

What a wonderful evening at this intimate, warm, and inviting restaurant! We felt like we were private guests of Duarte and Ana Marina, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The quick change from chef and host to fado musician was impressive - how do they do it?? Duarte and Marina were joined by a few other musicians, and entertained us with... More

What a delight this place is. It really does feel as if you are a guest in a private house. From the warm welcome and attentive device, to the delicious food the first part of the evening was good. But when the food was over and the hosts changed role, and were joined by three other musicians, the whole experience... More

You have to enjoy fado when you are in Lisbon. The owner of this restaurant is also the host, waiter, & musician. His wife is the cook and an excellent one at that! She is also a singer. We had a delicious meal and enjoyed the entertainment as well. The price was right - everything including wine was included. Don't... More

I made the reservation via email long before we visited Lisbon. A reservation is a necessity, with a down payment, and that was fine with us. When you enter the restaurant, they make sure that you have a reservation and then your table is waiting for you. After everyone has arrived, the door is locked. The first strange thing that... First and foremost I would like to say that this was a wonderful, beautiful evening and my husband and I enjoyed every second of it. The food, the hosts, and the entertainment was absolutely spectacular. Thank you, Duarte and Ana Marina for your wonderful hospitality and "carinho." But, I must say that if one thing ruined it, it was our... More
