Huge portions, delicious food, low cost!

This place is a great place to stop by when exploring Alfama - especially if you're feeling hungry! The portions were so large we thought there had been a mistake. Great traditional Portuguese food. Maybe just avoid the bread and cheese they give out at the start of the meal - I don't believe it is... read more

You need to get lost in Alfama to find this place :) Large portions of delicious grilled fish, great quality-price relationship. The place is quite packed at lunchtime, so I think it can be even worse during the evening. So, get ready to wait, but it's totally worth! The fish is grilled right in front of your eyes in the... A magic place, full of people. Wait for your table don't be in a hurry. Eat anything, it's all good and very cheap. Waiters are absolutely kind and available to suggest you the best "pescado" of the day. It's a real Portuguese dinner! Don't miss it! I'm been there two times in 4 night!

This is a great spot to stop by while exploring the Alfama district. An huge serving of ribs (twelve pieces!) cost only £7.50! Make sure to say no to the bread, butter and cheese they may bring out unless you want to pay for it.

We spent some days of our honeymoon in Lisbon and had our apartment in Alfama. Our host recommended this place and what a good choice! We had a late lunch there and we ate swordfish and dourada. Both of them super well done. The staff was very kind, with a smile and attentive. Don't hesitate to try if you are... More

Had the Dover Sole. Was very good. Comes as a whole fish, so you must fillet it. Easy. Lots of potatoes and carrots. Very good lunch. Would go back. Nice people.

I had the cuttlefish and a rice pudding for dessert, it was yummy! The outdoor patio is nice and the staff is friendly. There was some live music played in the beginning, when they stopped they showed us their cd and came around to sell it. We didn't want one BUT we missed to give them a tip for the... More

This was well worth the wait, the Alfama area is were the cruse ships dock. This outdoor setting with all the activity around you is exciting and fun. The food was outstanding and the price almost shockingly low.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
