This restaurant is centrally located by the church in Velas and has outdoor seating and a TV on the patio area. The wait staff was especially good explaining the menu and fish of the day. He spoke good English. We had bread with local cheese. The bread wasn't great but the cheese was. I had grilled grouper which was excellent... More

We toured 8 of the 9 Azorean islands in May of this year. Restaurants were hit and miss. Other than the hotel restaurants, we had to search for local places to eat. We were happy we found Acor in Velas. They had a diverse menu, a good bar (where I could finally get a good vodka/tonic), and we could view... More

Most of the other reviews are an accurate description of this place. It can be a little bit 'hit and miss' with regard to the service, the waiter forgot to deliver our drinks order on several occasions but the poor lad was working his socks off! We ate there on four occasions and the fact that we kept returning suggests... More

The outward appearance of this restaurant is rather deceptive, but once you find the dining room, it is very pleasant. The menu is good, the food satisfactory, and the service friendly and professional, but nothing exceptional. We found this restaurant on the expensive side for the Azores, but there are quite a few inexpensive choices available if required.

Being a few days in downtown Velas it is hard to visit a different restaurant every day. We went here for the second time since it is one of the better ones. Even with a big group of people already having dinner, the restaurant didn't disappoint us in speed of service, size of portions and quality of food.

Awful tourist trap in the main square with a suspiciously long menu. Soup was cold, seafood was overcooked and rubbery, service was slow, but a fellow guest claimed his filet mignon was OK. Try one of the many excellent restaurants in the vicinity (O Basalto, Velense) serving local food.

Situated on the village Square, fab basic food. Great fish dishes, simple grilled fish of the day was great, as were the seafood pasta dishes. Also fab for breakfast, or afternoon coffee.

Across the church in Velas. Good food and good service for a good price. Typical Azorean menu. The outside terrace is nice to sit in the evening. Probably one of the best restaurants on the island.

We spent 3 weeks in Sao Jorge, and had breakfast just about every morning here and a few beers/wine in the evening. The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff made it that much more enjoyable. Yes dinner service was a little long but the food tasted great... Rogerio made us feel welcome everyday and evening we were there. If your... More
