I have never written a bad review until now. We sat down here thinking it was somewhere else and somewhere else is where we should have been...I ordered the fish soup, it came out tepid and sent it back, it came back hot and did taste OK... 3 of our party ordered omelettes and they all came out cold... I... More

This has to get 5 stars. Superb service. Great service from friendly helpful staff. Fish soup and a superb prawn dish as appetizers were followed by medallions of beef in cream sauce with mushrooms, and a casserole of pork, clams and shrimp, both very fresh and excellently cooked. A shared chocolate crepe desert was helped by two extremely strong Irish... More

On the outside we saw a touristy snack menu and my first impression was of a basic tourist cafe. The inside was completely different with tanks of lobster and crab and beautifully laid tables. One member of the party had the lobster and really enjoyed it. We shared a bream, which was perfectly cooked and our children had fish fingers,... More

Had some lovely meals at Casa Velha while staying in Silves, visiting there most nights. The staff there are very nice and friendly, suggesting the fresh fish that had came in. They also remembered that I didn't drink alcohol from when we visited Silves in the previous year so at the end of the night I got a lovely little... More

We visited Silves yesterday and had lunch at this restaurant. Two of us ordered the feijoada special - a bean and shellfish stew - which was bland and made with frozen shellfish. That night we both came down with horrific diarrhoea, which continued for 24 hours. We are certain this dish made us ill and will be reporting the restaurant... More

We came down from castle and ate here as I had seen in guidebook. It was disappointing - we all had daily specials as we thought they would be good. The seafood/bean stew which I was excited about was bland and with frozen seafood - I should have asked more questions maybe. Fish stew was also underwhelming and fish of... More

Really traditional restaurant providing great friendly service and a menu revolving around fresh crab, lobster and other seafood straight from there tanks in the restaurant area. Meat choices as well as a smaller snack menu as well. Lovely for a lunch in town.

We were four to eat. The first course of melon and ham was disappointing, the fish soup at 2€. Was delicious. Main course for fish of the day was good and so was the sea bass. The cod fish was disappointingly salty and was the common dried fish that was put in water and served again. An a enrage experienced... More

Casa Velha is one of the oldest and traditional restaurants of Silves city that is specialised in sea food that in the last years became more touristic. When we visited it years ago with a congress group, we noticed more local clients, also during lunch time. Last week we returned and the waiters tried to attract every tourist that passed.... More
