The restaurant is at the base of the Monchique mountain and has a splendorous view of the countryside. The food is heavenly and the portions very generous.... The children had chicken kebab and in their words, delicious. My wife had veal (cheek) in the oven and the meat was very tender and tasty. I had leg of pork in the... More

Seat outside and you will love the breathtaking views! The food is also amazing! This is a Restaurant where I go back every year, when I visit this town. The staff are very friendly and caring. Everyone is kind and have a smile in their faces.

We had wanted to try this restaurant based on hearsay and had lunch on the Thursday, was so impressed with the food, service and ambiance that we booked to go back for dinner on the Friday with family. The portions are very generous, well cooked and executed, the house red wine is fabulous and we will definitely be returning to... More

I was in the Monchique area, so I went to Luar da Fóia on the 29th of june for lunch, following a quick survey on TA. You need to be careful with the restaurant recommendations for the Algarve as the restaurants listed as best are not necessarily what the Portuguese would eat or are not necessarily the best Portuguese food.... With everything closing early in Monchique, we stumbled upon this place at about 10:20pm and the owner allowed us to order food even though they were supposed to close 20 minutes prior. Tired and hungry, we were relieved but we had no idea what we were in for!!! Mouth wateringly tasty meat served with loads of sides and tasty starters... More

After reading the rave reviews we thought we were in for a real treat, my lamb kebab was ok'ish but served with soggy chips, my wife's monkfish kebab was excellent, our friends both ordered fillet of pork which was simply opened up lengthways then salted and grilled, it looked huge and tasteless, surely the benchmark of any restaurant should be... When you go there. Order the home made bread with smoked ham and then go for the wild boar stew with chestnuts. The best!

Having had a few meals on the coast, this was by far the best meal and most interesting menu. Great fresh fish, wild boar, interesting rice dishes etc. Massive portions and well cooked and fantastic views. Very reasonably priced and worth a visit. Located just out of Monchique on the road to Foia.

Breathtaking views from the terrace, ideal for a few drinks and early evening dinner. Very friendly staff create a relaxed atmosphere for traditional Portuguese dining. I particularly enjoyed the bread mash side which I had not eaten before and the Medronho aguardente which was also a new experience.
