Good Service; Unfair Business Practices

We arrived in Evora late (8pm-ish) Sunday night without any idea of what would be available and it was a little too dark to just wander, so, with a taxi driver's directions we found this place; which I recognized from my guide book. During my day trip to Evora, we were given two hours of free time, so I darted around and saw a lot of stuff and then ended up back in the main square by this restaurant. I saw they had a deal for a pork sandwich (very good pork in this part of Portugal) and fries with a drink. So... More

We were directed there by a local magazine. Upon arrival, with free tables, the staff frowned and made us waiting. They are very slowly and not friendly. Clearly they were more interested in serving foreigners! We had the Migas com Carne Porco (Pork meat with mashed bread) and Sopa de Cação (a kind of Fish soup). The bottle of wine... More

We had the Migas com carne porco and roast lamb dishes after trying several other restaurants who were full. The Migas was excellent. The pork fell of the bone and the bread stuffing was very nice. The lamb was also well cooked and also fell of the bone. The atmosphere was a little underwhelming as its a large place and... More

Nice regional alentejano food, not the cheapest nor trendiest, yet worthnthe visit if you want to be sure to taste typical food.

A truly grim experience on 4/5. Despite the wine menu showing 4 types of Rose on offer none were available. The hot sausage starter never arrived and when reported missing was met by a shrug of the shoulders by the 'waiter', The duck with rice was just only that and the Lamb Stew was frankly a farce - neck of... This was our second holiday in Portugal...and although this was very good food (both visits) it seems expensive by Portuguese standards. The pork with clams and spiced pork loin were both very good and the the house wine superb (but 16E a bottle).... and the cakes for dessert very tasty...but watch out for charges for bread, butter nibbles etc as... This restaurant is just off the main square, worth finding. The specialize in regional dishes. Large servings. We tried the lamb stew, it was excellent. The clam and pork, yes, it is a local dish, was more interesting than good. Fun to have tried it, the clams were super but the pork a bit dry. The local wine was surprisingly... More

Many restaurants are closed on Sunday, so checked Lonely Planet and this restaurant was listed as being open on Sunday. Walked up a meandering, narrow street, down stairs to a cellar, and had the best meal in Portugal. Everything was cooked to perfection! I had found the boiled potatoes to be salty, but not here. There is nothing to dislike... More
