There's a reason this place is ranked number one! This place doesn't take reservations so we were lucky to get a table! Judging by how the kitchen closed by 9.30pm I think that usually these lucky to get in are the only ones who will get served that night, so come early - people start lining up about 20 minutes... Can only add to what predecessors have said; only 10 folks when we dined - us 2 Brits, 2 x 2 Italiano, 2 Dutch and 2 Norwegians. We all knew each other by meal end, and Domingos and his wife were extremely hospitable. Best veal steak eaten in 20 years....

Excellent meal in this unique restaurant. Visit this place if you get the chance. The owner is a great host and the food is superb. We met other diners from UK, NZ and USA, all having a great evening

A unique place, unique host and a unique experience. We followed the advice of other trip advisor contributors and arrived early, we were the first in the queue, which was just as well because for a Wednesday night ten mins later the queue was larger than the ten seats available! We sat next to a French couple and had a... More

We followed the reco from Tripadvisor and ended up in this small, super cozy place. The owners are amazingly nice (they do not speak english, but it is not a problem at all). We had amazing food (cod fish home recipe & a pork steak) with great wine. definitely one of the best dishes, we had in Portugal

You get an idea of what type of experience this will be from the moment you are greeted by the owner, a pure delight. Just let him order your food and wine and you will truly enjoy the experience like a local.

We came here for lunch after a recommendation from our hotel, and we did not regret it. The restaurant looked quite full when we arrived, but the owner moved some people and some chairs and we where seated. We decided what to have for lunch (which is the same as for dinner) and he kept serving the excellent food and... More

With only 10 spots you better be there at 7pm (time it opens), or have a back-up plan! The place is just perfect: small, cozy and oh so nice! The owner loves to talk but be prepared with some Portuguese words (his English is kind of poor), but hey! Maybe you're lucky and find us there next time! I am... More

I dragged a reluctant family down a side street to visit this restaurant. Their faces when we walked in were priceless. 12 stools round a bar! It was busy but we got seats as people were leaving. From the start the owner was fantastic. We fairly much let him decide what we ate and although his English is not great... More

Having read fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor and hearing great recommendations from our hotel about the quality and authenticity of 'Botequim da Mouraria' we were a bit on the excited side. Armed with the knowledge there were only 9 bar seats in the restaurant we waited at 6.30pm for the doors to open at 7pm - we didn't want to... More
