My wife and I had read about this restaurant in a Frommers book on Portugal. we weren't really looking for it but stumbled across the sign in an alley. The entrance is just an old wooden door. As we walk thru the door, 30 pairs of eyes stared at us and the whole restaurant went quiet. We must... read more

Serves typical food and grill. Nice place in a traditional architecture. Located in the historic center.

I had some expectations about this restaurant in the old part of Beja city. I heard some good comments about it and decided to try it. Big disappointment. I don't know if my standards are a bit high now but really it's just an average restaurant and the meat is not that great. Probably because of Portuguese crisis they lower... More

A one-room restaurant with a bar/chill cabinets at one end and a small kitchen off to the side. There is a long run of side-by-side tables down the middle, with a few for smaller groups around the edges. Very friendly service and we got by with a mixture of his halting English and my (even more) halting Portuguese. Menu mostly... More

It's like going to a family for lunch/dinner. There is a big room which accomodates an open kitchen and the tables. Interior is ultra simple. Fodd is good (better than Adega 25 de Abril). Be patient when you get in. The owner doesn't care much if you are standing and waiting to be welcomed. But he is not mean. He's... More

tried to eat here on our first night in Beja (Sunday) but wasn't open so we returned on Monday night and enjoyed a hearty meal. None of our party spoke or read Portuguese, which the proprietor quickly sussed out and with a bit of sign language we came to an arrangement to try a little of most of the dishes... More

This restaurant won a well-deserved award for its "architecture" a few years ago. It is in a restored warehouse or giant barn-ish structure--all arches, beams, etc. with "rustic, rural Alentejo objects" dotted about, hung from the ceilings and etc. etc. So it is a great place to come to soak up an imagined "rurality", as it were. We came at... More

Canteen !!! A bit like a beer house. wine was not the best but ok. The food was ok. The service was ok. A wee bit ignored by the patron who was too busy lavishing his attention on the locals. 5 yards across from the best restuarant in the town.
