Our benchmark eatiing place has to be The Recruiting Sergeant in Horstead in Norfolk. But the Bell is a close second!! we like the open fire and the generous portions of food. Only once have we had a dodgy meal there, and told the staff about.

A lovely welcoming local inn. We had a great, well cooked Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. The portions were generous and there was a lot of variety on the plate - think I counted 9 different vegetables with my roast beef and Yorkshire pudding! The staff were helpful and friendly, they had a lovely roaring fire going and were... More

The two young women who served us were fabulous. If this review was based on them alone, it would be 5 out of 5. Brilliant. We live very local to this pub. It was our first time here and really wanted it to be great. Unfortunately, the food was just not up to scratch - nothing major seemingly wrong but... More

Great location in a very quiet village, this really is a classic village pub. Plenty of fresh Adnums ales and a very good varied quality menu with fresh fish and two surprising veggie options(not your usual 3 cheese pasta bake/lasagna)!. The landlord takes time to chat to everyone and made our visit one we'd like to repeat. See you soon.

My wife an I visited the bell last Saturday night and sunday afternoon. On the Saturday we both had a lovely lamb shank on a bed of crushed potatoes with mint gravy. For desert I had my favourite bread and butter pudding and my wife had the chocolate brownie both were delicious. On the sunday we both had the roast... More

We had a Saturday lunchtime visit, our first time and it was quite busy even in November. A warm welcome followed by well kept beer started us off on the right note. The menu was varied and interesting. Lamb shank on crushed potatoes with mint gravy was faultless. Calamari as it should be. Can't fault the staff, food or the... More

We are a party of 9 mail shooters who visit Highlodge Shooting once a year in November, which is quite near to the Middleton Bell and we all decided to pay a 2nd visit, as the food here was the best we had in the area in the last 4 years. We booked the Friday and Saturday night and I... More

We went for an Saturday evening meal on recommendation and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent consisting of duck in Orange sauce and skate wing followed by a shared pudding the reason for this the portions are enormous. To give you an idea a couple next us had sausage and mash and there were 4 sausages!! The landlord... More

The food was ok for pub fare, but could not be rated above that. However, the beer was good, with a good selection of real ales.
