Worth the ride

De Steenan Haene is a little way out from the centre of Ypres, but it is well worth the taxi ride. The setting is warm and welcoming; the staff are efficient and friendly. Lots of local people there enjoying themselves. Most of all, the food and wine are fabulous - great meat, beautifully cooked. A... read more

A group of us were on a tour of the WW1 battlefields and wanted somewhere special to dine to remind us of our experience. This restaurant delivered on all counts, the welcome was very friendly, the menu extensive and the food and wine was superb. It is a short taxi journey outside of Ypres but do not let this put... Sometimes all great things come together, that is the case at De Steenen Haene. We went there with a group of six 'spoiled' international foodies, we skipped the Michel star restaurants and opted for this one. The best choice made that day! Sound and grounded cuisine with a light and modern finish, you feel spoiled, but not stuffed. Service great,... More

An evening here with the wife was a welcome interlude to a very rushed but riveting Battlefields Tour. Some of our party failed to show at the restaurant but the owner was very good about this. Beautiful location although you really need to go in the summer months to enjoy it. The restaurant is very modern but warm and welcoming... More

We spent a great evening at this lovely restaurant. We traveled with a group...and often in this situations we have just had average dining experiences. But not here. We began with cocktails and appetizers on the patio which looks over a picturesque field with a large German bunker from WW1 right in the middle. There is a great outdoor fireplace... More

My wife and I recently had the good fortune to have dinner at this great restaurant during a visit to Ieper (Ypres). We were staying at a local B&B where the owner highly recommended De Steenen Haene as a great restaurant where local people went to eat and asked if he could make a reservation for us. We told him... Thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal at this classy restaurant. My wife has a gluten allergy and this was absolutely no problem. Fine menu and wine list along with first class service. It isn't cheap but you certainly get what you pay for.

A great restaurant situated a short taxi ride (9 euros) from centre of Ypres. (more of that later!) The staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating and talked us through the interesting menus. There were in essence two set meal selections one priced at around 40 euros and one around 50 euros ( 3 course) plus wine. We were also served... More

We were four friends on a visit to Tyne Cot. What a great restaurant this is - decor, staff, ambience and food could not be faulted. In spite of our visit coinciding with a large private party ( Rotary?) the service was impeccable. My husband had a steak that he said was one of the best he had ever eaten... More

Situated just outside Ypres (9.30 euros from the Novotel in a cab) if you enjoy exceptional food at reasonable prices then you just have to visit this lovely restaurant. We took the outlaws for a short visit to Ypres and they deserved a nice meal, again we were not disappointed. Total cost for meal and drinks for four people was... More
