Nice family operated place in the center of town but a bit off the central square. Traditional Flemish cuisine served in good quantities. It has it's own beer which is really worth tasting. I's a rather small restaurant compared to most of the restaurants situated at the central square which is nice. The restaurant has a rustic atmosphere with lots... More

Again we booked ahead - the restaurant is not large so it is worth doing this. We sampled the set "winter menu" and the "Valentine's Menu" - I had the boar pâté and then the venison winter stew whilst my husband had foie gras followed by a pigs cheek casserole - both the mains were warming but not overly hearty... Unfortunately, I did not get to eat at De Ruyffelaer. Not paying enough attention to their web site, in particular what days they are open, I requested a reservation by email for a Tuesday night (they are only open Fri.-Sun.). When they attempted to respond to my email, for some reason it did not get to me. When they realized... More

Based on reviews I are booked table by email. Excellent restaurant very attentive service and yes to be called "my lady"! The starters very nice.... As were main courses Flemish stew and mash potato rather than frites was a welcome. Wine by carafe. Waiter/owner left us alone until we wanted coffee and we sat by fire which was so cozy.......3... We had dinner here on Saturday 7th December having booked based on the many favourable reviews, we were not disappointed. I think the reviewer of 25th November must have visited a different restaurant! We booked a table for 8.30pm when we arrived we received a nice welcome. The restaurant felt warm, cosy, and oozes atmosphere and charm, a perfect setting... More

The reviewer of 25th November should have eaten at the Chip Shop on the square. We went here to celebrate the retirement of a colleague selected the game menu of boar pate then venison cooked in wine with wild mushroom and chestnuts. All of this was delicious, well seasoned with a range of garnishes and vegetables. As an amuse bouche... More
