Interesting tastes fabulously represented

I waited a lot of this restaurant, took a tasting menu of 8 dishes. Amuse bouches were just amazing, pieces of art. Therefore I was slightly disappointed when the first dish arrived. There was just a funky taste in it that our table just didn't like. 2nd dish was better but still not amazing. But... read more

My husband and I dined at Hertog Jan on the Saturday of Easter Weekend – April 2015. The restaurant looks modern and smart from the outside with “star wars doors” (glass sliding doors that open as you walk up to them) – very cool. Inside, the dining space is large and very spacious. Tables are very well spaced apart. A... More

Second time I visited this restaurant. First time still in brughes, this time on their new location. The whole package matches, from building, to parking space, kitchen, resto room, tables,.....it is good. An excellent smooth service of young boys and girls with an exquisite eye for detail! Bravo! You feel like being an actor in a great movie. Enjoyed their... More

The new restaurant of Hertog Jan is really exclusive as they want to produce all the vegetable for themselves. The service is first ranking for the outstanding menu. At the end of the dinner they showed us the kitchen wich was a nice combination of a protected old building with the contemporrary requirements.

This was my first visit to the new location of Hertog Jan after several visits to the old location. I saw the restaurant grow from * to ** and then *** Michelin. Well, chef Gert Mangeleer and maitre d'hôtel Joachim Boudens upped the ante even a little more. The restaurant is now widely considered to be in the top 50... More

On February 5th had dinner at Hertog Jan. Probably not thé very best dining experience we ever had but definitely one of the best. The restaurant is located in a very nice renewed buiding and is a rather big place (restaurant, kitchen and garden). Particularly the restaurant itself is a pretty large space due to which one will not necessarily... More

When my wife made the reservation, she wasn't aware of their new 3 star rating or new location. What a pleasant surprise! The food was exquisite and the sommelier did a great job of paring wine and beer to our courses. The lobster was amazing but my mind was blown away by the scallops with seared bone marrow! The service... More

It is always an adventure to go to the Hertog Jan. I've been there 5 times, 3 times in the new location and 2 times in the old one. I regret that they don't serve fitting wines with the dishes anymore, so you have to order a bottle at a time. When you go there with 4 of 6 people... More

This is a world-class establishment serving contemporary cuisine in a modern setting just outside Bruges. The courses were complex and sometimes included one or two table-side pours or additional condiments for oil, vinegar, or herbs. The staff were attentive and knowledgable. We visited with a party of two, and one member of our party counts this as the best meal... More

We had a marvellous meal at the old location last year and wanted to visit off course again in its new location. It was a pity that it was dark when we arrived and left because in wintertime obviously the large glass front and back wall did not come to his right and could be dangerous as one other guest...
