5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2015 NEW

When my wife made the reservation, she wasn't aware of their new 3 star rating or new location. What a pleasant surprise! The food was exquisite and the sommelier did a great job of paring wine and beer to our courses. The lobster was amazing but my mind was blown away by the scallops with seared bone marrow! The service... More

It is always an adventure to go to the Hertog Jan. I've been there 5 times, 3 times in the new location and 2 times in the old one. I regret that they don't serve fitting wines with the dishes anymore, so you have to order a bottle at a time. When you go there with 4 of 6 people... More

This is a world-class establishment serving contemporary cuisine in a modern setting just outside Bruges. The courses were complex and sometimes included one or two table-side pours or additional condiments for oil, vinegar, or herbs. The staff were attentive and knowledgable. We visited with a party of two, and one member of our party counts this as the best meal... More

We had a marvellous meal at the old location last year and wanted to visit off course again in its new location. It was a pity that it was dark when we arrived and left because in wintertime obviously the large glass front and back wall did not come to his right and could be dangerous as one other guest... I follow Hertog Jan since many years, have had lunches and dinners at the restaurant since young chef Gert De Mangeleer and young sommelier Joachim Boudens started working with original owner (and wine teacher) Guido Franque, I've seen Gert evolving from a technically very talented young chef to a gifted creator of perfect product-driven dishes and consequently to one of... First, I'd like to mention I didn't try this restaurant which is probably excellent but based on what I think is a 3 stars Michelin restaurant, I have to say Hertog Jan strictly didn't care about customer service. I wanted to plan a lunch in this acclaimed restaurant for my birthday but needed to have a few more details regarding... More

This is a three star Michelin restaurant and deserves to be. The food is beautifully presented and tastes perfectly delicious. The presentation is perfection itself and the service is polite and thoughtful. The wine list is grand with some special wines on offer. However this all does not come cheap. It is the most expensive restaurant I have visited for... More

Fantastic food from great ingredients, which are for a large part grown in the restaurant's own garden. Surprising without going into technical hocus pocus - innovative combinations, intriguing taste tensions, … Chef Gert De Mangeleer really is top grade. The restaurant itself is a beautiful and intelligently designed renovation of a farmhouse. The result is a large dining hall that... More

Minimalist dining room with picture window looking out over the impressive kitchen garden, Food was tasty and interesting. We took the 6-course menu. I didn't like all the dishes - in fact I didn't eat one of them, but that was ok because my partner ate my course as well as his - i didn't like the mixture of seafood,... More

Unbelievably good, if not rather expensive. Simple minimalist surroundings with the garden centre stage. The food was similar, super fresh, well conceived and precise. Service was friendly, non-invasive and well-paced
