Old fashioned charm

Our second visit here; it's not out of the way for us as it was only just off the route from our B&B to the city centre. We loved the atmosphere in the garden, alongside the skittle alley - so many pubs in England have lost this charm in the headlong rush to corporate identity. We didn't try the... read more

Maybe come here for a beer (still there are far better places) but DO NOT eat here. The food is just microwaved premade supermarket junk at outrageous prices. This place has become a major tourist trap. Sad to see as a local. Nice people serving, most likely students working during the holidays.

This may well be the oldest pub in Bruges, but that doesn't givr them carte blanche to take the mick on pricing....8euros for a very poor Croque Monsieur?! Narrow choice of draft (keg) beers. Possible more choice of bottled but we didn't hang around to find out. Nice enough garden. Too many children.

Lovely character, very friendly and competent staff and it goes without saying that the beer was fab! What I didn't expect was the really amazing salads- I had the tiger prawn and Parmesan, OH had goats cheese, bacon and honey. Amazing! Rest of the family enjoyed their meals too. Reasonable prices. Lovely evening.

Tucked away down a tiny side street away from the centre of Bruges, this place must be doing something right to have been going strong since 1515. We popped in on a quiet sunny afternoon and spent an hour or so trying a few of their many beers in the excellent garden. Sadly we didn't have time to eat but... More

Absolutely a great place , out of the tourist zone , having their five hundredth birthday this year , great luncheon food and superb house beer , but you shouldn't feed the owners dog Freddie , but we did .

This is the first 500 year-old restaurant I've been to & we liked it so much we went twice. The interior is dominated by dark wooden furnishings with historic accent / décor... it has a museum quality to it. We (along with most diners) enjoyed eating outside in the courtyard. This is a nice setting for a casual, leisurely dinner.... More

Our hotel owner told us we had to make a stop here for a beer before going on to our restaurant for dinner. Good advice. Reputedly the oldest pub in Bruges, it was absolutely a classic. The house brew was delicious. Waitresses were fun and friendly. Would like to go back for a meal as the menu looked appealing.

So glad we found this place. Definitely off the beaten path, but worth finding and visiting. We had lunch here. The main bar room was full, so we went to the little house outside which is adjacent and it's so charming. Good beer, good food, and great service. Lovely garden outside, lots of cool old things to see inside and... More

The oldest pub in Bruges is out of the way, uncrowded, slow and limited in food selection. And I love it. Enjoy the cheese sandwich with a beer or two and you've got the best ambiance in Bruges at a steal of price.
