old is old, old is good

The oldest pub in Bruges is out of the way, uncrowded, slow and limited in food selection. And I love it. Enjoy the cheese sandwich with a beer or two and you've got the best ambiance in Bruges at a steal of price.

Our host recommended a visit to the Herberg Vlissinghe and I was glad we did. The tavern is 500 years old, little off the beaten path but this place is steeped in history. They have a good selection of beers and food at more than reasonable prices. (Cheeper than in the market place). The beer garden is a sun trap... More

This is the most beautiful sunny walled garden. A little paradise away from the centre of Bruges. We like the Jupiler beer and the cava. The lasagne and the macaroni cheese were delicious. All very well priced. We were there for hours and the bill was only €55. Pub games and cards available so we just chilled out and enjoyed... More

Found this lovely pub around the corner from the house we were staying at. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Had a few beers plus a cheese & ham sandwich with salad which was very nice. Met lots of friendly people.

I was torn between giving this an average or very good. The pub is 500 years old, so automatically it gets points for that. We did not eat here but I certainly wanted to because the food smelled amazing. There is a house beer, which is something we certainly look for when choosing a pub to drink at in Bruges.... More

a great place to visit, if a little out of the way. Great beer and soup. A must when in Bruges after all, it is 500 years old

It was cool to go there as it is their 500 year anniversary! So you should go too! But just know: A little out of main square. Limited choice of beers albiet adequate. Interior is interesting. History. There is also a patio -but it was nothing special. The service was very slow and we had to ask for a beer.... More

Historic inn with excellent house beer and average food = very good review. It gets very busy, so arrive early to find a table and enjoy the atmosphere

500 yrs old and going strong! The admissions person recommended it at the Lace Center saying only it served good food at a fair price. Well, yes but it's been a pub continuously for 500 years, has a very friendly staff and the pub dog...well I guess the dog is like the "mayor" of the place. Checks on everybody and... More

We had read that it was the oldest pub in Bruges, so we had to give it a try. It was a very warm and inviting place. The establishment even had a pup that would go from table to table for a pat on the head. We had a wonderful meal of Italian food. Yes, they served really good Italian... More
