The food is fine, but it feels (and may well be) a bit like a chain. Big steaks for a fair price, but something about it made it just feel a bit average; mushroom sauce was a bit bland, same with the asparagus starter. Perfectly non offensive place, but I think there are better places to eat in Ghent.

We visited this restaurant one Wednesday lunchtime about 12:30 PM. We were fortunate enough to get the last table in what was quite a large restaurant. We have been told that it is full every lunchtime and every evening so booking would be advisable. The menu comprised of all the usual Flemish dishes and as with many restaurants in Gent... More

Definately the best I've had there! Du Progres is a lively restaurant with a wood and old photograghs interior and the usual outdoor dining. The menu is somewhat limited, largely beef and seafood. Be aware that Belgian steak has less fat, and hence less flavor than in the US. Service is attentive, and very good (my wife's eel was not... More

Excellent waiter service, fast, informative & efficient. English translation was available as part of their usual menu. Food was enjoyable. The steak was a little less cooked than requested. The vegetarian pasta dish was unnecessarily enormous but tasty. Clearly a popular eating place by the lack of empty tables, giving it a comfortable, bustling, characterful feel.

If you're looking for classic Belgian cuisine then I would highly recommend this place. We had cheese croquettes, which were delicious, crispy on the outside, melt in the mouth cheese on the inside. Then we had rump steaks, which were tender and juicy and cooked perfectly, they came with a side salad and double fried frites which were excellent. Along... More

Booking is advisable as this place gets full, even midweek. Service is friendly without being over attentive, and very reasonable in terms of value for money. The Chateaubriand was superb - billed as sharing for two but could easily have fed four. Tip top fries as well.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner here during our 2 night stay in Ghent. I had made a reservation online from home and our table was waiting when we arrived. Ghent was experiencing some lovely spring weather so lots of people were eating at the outside seating but we opted for the quieter and more spacious feel of the inside dining... More

Based on the glowing reviews, I was looking forward to a good steak. I can't say this is the best steak I've had but it was decent, albeit a little tough. I enjoyed the fries much more. Service was a little slow but always friendly. The portions are generous and the price point felt reasonable. It's in a very nice... More

This restaurant sits on the main square of Ghent and is a great spot during the day to have lunch and enjoy the sun. We had a wonderful meal of the new seasons asparagus with brown shrimp and also in the Flemish style with chopped egg and butter. Prices are reasonable and service was good.
