When in Ghent, eat waterzooi

Good combination: visit the Van Eyck altarpiece, and nip over to Bridge for lunch. Our chicken waterzooi (Ghent specialty, a sort of chicken stew) was very tasty, generous portions. Very clean toilets too.

A busy restaurant with a good atmosphere with customers of all age ranges. The waiter who served us was super helpful and friendly. He pointed out the side of the menu in english (other pages were in spanish, french and dutch I believe). The food came in good time and really set us up for the rest of the day.... More

Off course there is always better but this was pretty good. Great portions. Staff was a little bit hasty. Don't expect spending a lot of time of wining and dining.

We'd arrived at our hotel later than planned, so this was a convenient watering hole across the square from the Ibis. It was just about full, the majority being locals visiting the Christmas market just outside. Things got off to a great start with a dark beer recommended by our waitress - Westmalle tripel on draft, absolutely superb. We indulged... More

Came over to Gent for a long weekend with 3 children - and we wanted an authentic Belgian restaurant - with mussels. Was a lovely dinner. The mussels were fabulous, well cleaned, plump and juicy. The boys only complaint was that there wasn't enough sauce as they would have liked, but I think that is because we ordered original and... More

Go for the suggestions du chef - the rabbit in wine with prunes was delicious & so was the jamboneau! Good portions, quick service and reasonable prices!

I was a bit suspicious of a tourist trap vibe when we walked by this very conveniently located spot during the day. We came back for dinner though and had a fantastic meal and good service for a reasonable price. I had the flemish beef stew and my wife had mussels in garlic and cream sauce and both of us... More

Visited as part of a group of 9 on a Friday night. The main menu tries to be all things to all men (lunch, dinner, snacks). The specials menu is more inspired but you need to ask the waiter to translate from the Flemish! I had the rabbit casserole with prunes from the specials and my husband had the ham... More

Located on one of the main tourist squares (St Baafs), it sits in a top location. The building nor the interior are old, but it has been stylish albeit soberly decorated. The menu is rather typical brasserie food, nothing fancy, but good and filling food. It serves quite a few typical dishes, like mussels, rabbit and waterzooi. The portions are... More

Visited the place by myself based on reccomendation from hotel's staff. completely satisfied.. though service was slow at the beginning (it was monday and there was only one waiter for the whole place), food came quickly and in enormous portion. Great value for the money and taste delicious. no regret!
