yesterday night i had one of the best surprises ever in a restaurant. Very close to where I live, in one of the oldest parts of the city close to the Castle, you can find the restaurant Karel de Stoute. I had been there moren than 10 years ago. The place had different owners, but the food was very good.... More

A fine restaurant. Great food, delicious wines and smooth service. Why only three? Because we find that it is rather on the pricey side. Small restaurant with a lot of staff so maybe that's the reason. But we dined extensively for € 50 less at michelin starred Vrijmoed a few months back and Karel de Stoute is not of this... More

Cosy small restaurant, with inversely proportional marvellous food. The menu is very well designed (easy to chose, which I like a lot). Had a 4 course meal, and every course was mesmerising, intriguing and felt rewarding...ummm. A good blend of flavours, technique, and service. Looking forward to coming again.

Everything very badly passed from the beginning to the end. First of all, the welcome was cold because I was late. There was a misunderstanding for the schedule with the hotel which had reserved restoring her(it) for me. I arrived at 9 pm. Late apparently for this restaurant. The maximum hour of arrival being 8 pm. Result:I had no choice... More

Incredibly slow service here despite an almost empty restaurant. The starter was pretty to look at, but insubstantial and not particularly tasty. The little loaves of bread were a nice touch in their baking tins, but were very necessary as we might have had to go elsewhere for sustenance later. The main course was disappointing and not in any way... More

I didnt know of this restaurant and read comments on this site. Reviews sounded convincing enough for me to try this restaurant. I can tell that all positive comments found here are true! I cant find any negative point, really. We were in company of eight, and all of us shared same experience. I believe this restaurant will some day... More

If you want to spend a typical flemish high cuisine, this is a very good place to be. Don't be surprised to be served a 7 course meal of small and excellent selections with delicious sorbets and fine fruit ice creams in between. The environment is quite unique with the old custom way of service.

My wife and I dined at Karel De Stoute in December based on reviews here at TA. We were following an experiment to see if highly regarded places like this one were measurably better than say places that did not have as many reviews. Look at my other review in Ghent for the other place we dined. But on to... More

We come here twice a year, and every time, they just seem to surprise us with new things and excellent food. The cook really knows what he is doing, we expect a michelin star soon. Service is very good and very friendly, superb location! If there is something in the menu you don't like, a good alternative is never a... More
