Excellent food, but poor tip policy

Had international dinner with party of 8, spent about € 450. Everything was fine, excellent food and wine, service relatively good. In Belgium, service is included, meaning you dont tip, and certainly dont ask for it. Seeing that we were an international group, the waiter insisted 2 times for a... read more

Low level service, low level food... what else? The pork meat was not cooked enough, the wine they served was not the one we ask for and when I asked to see the bottle they refused, I had to ask four time for the bill. Really a place I will not visit again.

We had a private party - upstairs room which is nice - with ~20 people. The service is very average with servers interrupting to explain the many small snacks being served. We were disappointed by the senseless complexity and many tiny small glasses filled with foam, bite size bits and messy plates. The foie gras was forgotten in all the... More

Olivier B, Propriétaire at Le Coq en Pate, responded to this review

to answer to your comment, the payement has been done by credit card and the appliance is automatically configured to let tips IF the client want to let one ! In any case the waiter insist to have a tip. The misunderstanding should be coming to the fact that you were only speaking english and the waiter not, I'm sorry... More

Despite living nearby we have tried this bistro due to nice reviews in Tripadvisor. The food is indeed excellent, perfect wine even by glass, good service taken Belgian standards, seems very popular among locals. Not for kids, though. Definately recommended for couples and parties.

The assortment of bread they provide as you wait for your order is among the best I've had so far in Brussels. Then they give appetizers which were also quite nice--it's not on the menu so I'm not really sure what's in it. We had cochon de lait and scallops with truffle--both were really good. I highly recommend this restaurant... More

We had the 45 euro gourmet menu with wine, everything was excellent, innovative and well presented and cooked, good service, kind to kids ( we had our 7 year old with us). One of the best places we've tried in Brussels!

- Nice restaurant with terrace; no reservation needed (but recommended for the weekend) - Choice of several menus and à la carte; as we arrived late the long menu was no longer served... - professional staff but somehow very slow; had to wait for the dessert for more than 20 minutes... - extensive list of wines offered by the glass... We went there based on the very positive reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. The place is very cosy and well decorated, the staff was very professional and the food was excellent, from the complimentary appetizers and original oven-fresh bread to the desserts. The only thing that could have been better is the time we had to wait... More

We had our Easter Sunday lunch here and it was superb. We have eaten here four or five times previously but this was the best. For €45 we had a four course meal with three glasses of wine and there was not a false note. Four inventive appetisers were followed by smoked carpaccio then asparagus. The main course was lamb... Le Coq en Pate is without any doubt one of the best restaurants in Brussels. The kitchen presented by the owner and chef, Olivier, is an inventive interpretation of Italian cuisine. If you are looking for real value for your money, you will have to look longtime for a better restaurant than this one in Brussels and believe me, I... More
