Excellent seafood

This place is excellent for fish and seafood, but be aware that it is also very expensive. As an entree I had the Salad of gray shrimps and king crab, very tasty. As a main dish we had the st. Jacobs with asparagus and Fried sole with mustard sauce. Both excellent. I do not rate the place... read more

Walking through Antwerp old centre was interesting but besides a few bars, there was not much local cuisine offered. Then we turned a corner into this little square and found the palinghaus. As eel is my favourite fish, we had to eat there. We were a tad early so sat in the square opposite for half an hour til it... More

Looking for a good seafood restaurant away from the tourist areas we came upon this one in a quiet square, and looking through the window could see it gave the impression of being a serious place. I was set on the seafood platter for 59 euros, and was not disappointed, plenty of winkles and welks, warm crab, half a lobster,... More

Until last Saturday, this was easily my favourite restaurant in Antwerp, one I had visited 4 or 5 times. This time the quality of both the service and the food failed to meet our expectations and both were well below the standard experienced on our earlier visits My main course of eels in green sauce was half the size of... I've been to this restaurant a few times and enjoyed it every time. This isn't food to make you go wow but steady cooking of classic fish dishes. The house white wine is really very good

This is the kind of restaurant I like. The best possible ingredients, well prepared in a traditional manner. The restaurant is well-located close to the river and the fish was among the freshest I have had for a long time. Here cod means a thick tranche of wild fish and not a tiny fish farmed specimen. The turbot I had... More

Nice old style restaurant not far from the grand place of Antwerp. Service is very good and the list of suggestions outside of the menu card told by the chef himself is phenomenal. Food is excellent but comes at a steep price. A bouillabaisse costs a whopping 59euro per person but is extremely well prepared. For the non-fish eater the... More

Very assured food and service, all at the top of what one can expect from a quite expensive restaurant. You will not find any new ideas that will wow you, but you will get very good food

The restaurant is nice.Everything inside make you think at the sea. Pople working there are friendly and smiling, really gentle. Food is fresh, well prepared, and you can find typical dishes from belgium. Wine list is nice, the problem is that it is almost impossible to find a bottle of wine below 30 euros. Finally the restaurant is really good,... More

Situated next to a quaint-looking hotel (both are painted in the same blue livery) in a quiet city-centre square near the river, this establishment is a bit of a mystery at first to foreigners like myself who do not know that its name means "The New Eelhouse". But it does exercise a silent appeal, instantly recognisable as being associated with... More
