The location of this restaurant is off the beaten path . We weren't looking for it , just stumbled on it. It's in a beautiful and quiet courtyard away from the crowds. The food is average but they have a nice variety of beers and wine and the ambiance is lovely with nice music and very relaxing.

My wife and I completed a nearly six month trip in Europe last weekend, finishing up in Antwerp for our flight out of Brussels on Saturday the 1st. We had a fabulous meal the night before at Bourla the night before and decided to eat at De Groote based on a recommendation in the Steve's guide. They have a very... More

We wanted a snack lunch of Flemish food, and that is not so easy to find among all the international cuisines on offer. Also a quiet spot to sit. We stumbled on this place not even sure it was open from the street, just a quiet courtyard in view. The furnishing is old and a bit tatty, but the menu... More

Last visited in the 1980s so we had low expectations. It excelled though. The salads (Ravel and Benoit, respectively, are to die for, and the beer menu is pretty comprehensive. The Mort Subite Geuze is bottled so is guaranteed, but nevertheless it was served with loving attention to detail. A lovely lunch for two for less than £20 each, including... More

Great ambience and a very comprehensive beer menu. The staff were accommodating (in that brusque Belgian sort of way). The only minus was that the food took pretty long but it was definitely worth the wait. Both the meat and the fish dish were great Belgian classics.

One of the precious gems in Antwerp city. Just outside the touristic areas a beautiful place to have excellent food. Pleasant service and a very reasonable price.

We were so glad to come across this restaurant on our first evening in Antwerp. It was warm enough to sit outside in the courtyard (though the interior seemed very pleasant too). The menu was just what we'd been looking for - homely Flemish fare - and we were pleased to have some appropriate beers recommended to us by our... More

We stopped by for drinks on a warm later afternoon. The interior courtyard is a nice respite from the clamor and tourist throngs of the Gros Markt nearby. Picnic-style tables outside; comfortable historic dining room inside. Very helpful friendly service. My husband is the beer drinker in the family, and the staff was helpful in describing the various styles and... More
