Exotic in every way

Because of the location, this restaurant isn't the one where you're pushed against your neighbours while you try to eat. It's always fun-busy, which makes the atmosphere great. The most important thing in a restaurant is mood, but this dinner destroy our nice day. Our hotel tell us Smaak offer crocodiles is very cool and special that we never try before, so we try this restaurant. Menu with lots of African name that we never seen before, and we don’t know how to choose the meal, waitress recommend... More

Try order the Oost Afrika Special (there's chicken, fish, lamb and beef in one plate) and some other menu like ZGNI Special (beef) and ASSA/KELWA Special (pangasius fish). You can order some menus in one big platter and eat them with your hands (if you prefer to). Price is very reasonable for great taste they gave. Oh, it's better to... More

This is one of my favorite places in Rotterdam. Absolutely delicious and a little exotic. Some of the dishes are served to eat by hand using the pancake-like bread. The atmosphere is also somehow African with a lot of decorations. Even better, prices are quite affordable. Absolutely good value!

The restaurant boasts East, West and South African food on the menu, but I can only speak to the Ehtiopian food. I generally like Ethiopian food -- the pancakes and the spicy meats and the mix of flavors -- but I rarely encounter Ethiopian food that is cooked with any real artistry. In De Smaak Van Afrika, the food was... More

Have enjoyed eating here three times! Good price, nice portions, decent service (just rather slow and inattentive), and it just makes for something different. An extensive menu, friendly atmosphere and colorful plates! You get served African pancakes and can pick a type of curry (I recommend the white fish) and it is serviced on a pancake with lentils, spinach, salad... More

After a view at the menu it's dificult to make a choice, the best is to take a combi dinerbowl. Everything is tastfull and a bit spicy. Great diner from Afrika

I went there twice and the food is mouthwatering. Both times, I shared the platter for two people. The only downside to the restaurant (and I find this to be true for many places in the NL) is the service, it seems they're doing you a favor by bringing you your order. Still, I would recommend it for the food,... More

My boyfriend has introduced this restaurant to me about two years ago. It's one of my favorite restaurants now. It's a wonderfull place to go eat. The food concept is great and we really love the warm atmosphere. We go here about 4 times a year. The tables are beautifully hand painted with interesting information about Africa. We always order... More

Great food, with a variety from different African areas, with nice music and great atmosphere. The service is very warm and welcoming. Do try the banana bear :-)
