Something else!

Great atmosphere, great food, not-so-great service, in short. I really appreciate the tongue-in-cheek atmosphere. Signs everywhere, from various countries, and the dishes on the menu all had 'forbidden' names. I suppose being able to speak Dutch helps with that. The food was good. The dessert was... read more

Signs everywhere, from various countries, and the dishes on the menu all had 'forbidden' names. I suppose being able to speak Dutch helps with that. The food was good. The dessert was delish, apparently their Creme brûlée is a must-try. (It was good!) Service was sub-standard... More

Verboden toegang translates roughly as no admittance. The walls are adorned with these signs from railways around the world, the food is equally good, the service was attentive and very helpful, the food is well presented, but not over the top like some places. A good all rounder and well worth booking a table for lunch or evening.

The food is very nice if you want a nice/fancy fish or meat meal but the strong point of this restaurant is it's decoration The wall are totally filled with signs from all around the world (the name of the restaurant btw) That doesn't make the food taste better than another restaurant but it changes from traditional white wall of... This place uses all kinds of signs to decorate their restaurant, and incorporates them in the names on the menu as well. Great atmosphere and good food! Worth a visit!

Not fancy, but very decent food. Tasty, hearty, good portions. They also have several lower-price deals. Definitely a good option for a casual dinner.

Lovely restaurant in the center of Leiden. My mother and I came here with a friend by car, but parked the car at the Haagweg parking lot where we took a bus to the restaurant. This made it so we wouldn't have to struggle with lack of parking or tight spaces. We arrived at the restaurant and learnt that the... More

A nice, casual restaurant in central Leiden. The menu has a good range of choice, from spare ribs to several vegetarian options. The ambience is relaxing, with the restaurant's theme of rules and resistance to rules obvious in much of the decor. There is an English language menu and, as in most Dutch restaurants, the wait staff is fluent in... More

I went in this place because it was close my accomodation in Leiden and I ate a very good food. Maybe a little expensive.

The decor looked a lot like bars in the the States; the food was very good. The four of us each had starters and an entree and every one was pleased; my bacon wrapped wild boar was delicious.

I was at 'Verboden Toegang' with a business friend. Very nice spot in the old historical town of Leiden. With nice weather you can sit at the terrace at the sidewalk, but with sufficient space. No cars. Great to be. The food is OK and price worth. We had two starters, two mains, two bottles of waters and seven bears... More
