Restaurant Vaartsche Rijn is a care-free, living-room area next to the waterside, which you shouldn't pass by. Most beautiful dishes will be served With full commitment, ongoing knowledge and lots of love. No menu, no stress over choices: lean back and be surprised. Special wines (or other drinks) will form an amazing combination with the dishes, where vegetables are the most important basics. There are weekly new dishes formed in the open kitchen of Vaartsche Rijn, in charge of masterchef Stijn Knaapen, witch will be served in a 3-, 4- or 6-course menu. The most products come from local and biological producers and gardens, with a feeling of responsebility and caring for the earth.

This is why we eat out

What a joy this place is. I don't know who has brought this team together, but it's a cracking combination. The restaurant is a few steps away from the centre of town, (which made parking dead simple). We went on a Tuesday evening and it was very quiet. That never bothers me as a diner, but by... read more

I went here with my boyfriend and enjoyed a lovely evening with 6 courses and wine arrangement, every one with totally different, fresh, local and season-focused ingredients and amazing tastes! The staff is very friendly and personal, they first asks for things you would like and take this into account. The wines that came with the disease were lovely and... More

Outstanding in every way. You step in and you find yourself on a journey full of unexpected flavors. Must try! With my girlfriend we went there for our anniversary and we absolutely loved it.

I ate with 5 friends at 'Vaartse Rijn' and we've had a experience, not just a diner. 5 courses with surprising combinations, spot-on preperations, no nonsense and honoust food. Good creativity. Handsome kooks, who you can follow from a safe distance without burning your fingers. One of the best venues i went to in Utrecht. Bart.

A great restaurant with a couple of flaws. - The service was awesome. - The wine matching ok, but not brilliant. - The non-alcoholic drink pairing was fantastic (many michelin starred restaurants could learn a trick here!) - The food was delicious and creative, especially the pudding which was truly divine (a combination of rhubarb and fennel). - The vegetarian... My favorite restaurant in Utrecht, the city where I live. I lost count on the times I've eaten at Vaartsche Rijn. Always great food and wines with exciting combinations. Always have good options for vegetarians and flexible with diets.

Restaurant Vaartsche Rijn has a great concept: you choose to have either a 4 or 5 course menu without knowing what the dishes are, let the staff know if you are allergic to certain foods or definitely don't want to eat this or that, perhaps opt for the wine menu which, of course, is aligned with the dishes, and then... VR is one of the unknown gems in Utrecht. Styn Knaepen the chef does a wonderful job with vegetables and plate presentation. The food was fresh and flavorful. Our waitresses Sacha and Annemarie made us feel very welcomed. We are foodies... I would highly recommend eating at VR!

I know fusion food means new proposals in gastronomy, but in the dinner I just had nothing matched! Cold soup, pistache everywhere... But attention was great
