unique experience

I have been to this unique place several times. Once with a group of friends and we enjoyed good food and several beers in the upstairs area, the attic of the curch. A great place to celebrate with a larger group where the volume rises as the night progesses. And I have also visited alone on a... read more

A brewery in a former church with about 20 beers on draft - and staff who are happy to give you expert advice on what beers will be to your taste. I bet they have the best ever staff training days ....

Came to the Jopenkerk on a recommendation from my parents. Was worth the trip. Set in a converted church the inside is lovely. The staff who were working were full of knowledge and happy to talk you through each of the beers on tap. This included what the ingredients were and what they tasted like. We opted for a 6... More

Everything was perfect! One of the best beers ever! The ambient and the service was awesome... The main reason for coming back to Haarlem!

A pearl in Haarlem city. Local brewed in, actually brewed in the former church where the bar is at. Magnificent interior, sublime and worldwide award winning local beers. Definitely a must see when in Haarlem

I used to go to the church's Sunday school in the sixties and seventies: the free Dutch reformed church. The beautiful windows have been preserved. Then the church was turned into a local brewery with grand cafe and restaurant. The various Jopen beers are excellent! Try them all. But the grand cafe and the restaurant are also great just for... Jopenkerk is a nice place to come for a beer (Jopen brewed in Haarlem and the restaurant) and pub grub type food (Dutch style). The building is a converted church with plenty of seating areas, ideal for family, friends and couples. There is an extensive outdoor seating area too. Most Friday's Jopenkerk hosts live music. The menu is basic Dutch... More

The building was once a church and the transformation is interesting to see. There is a better reason to visit - the beer. There are many types of beer available and they all seem to be very good.

We walked far on Monday June 1 in the afternoon to visit the Jopenkerk after our hosts recommended it and the positive reviews. Upon entering it was quiet as expected on a Monday. After figuring out where to sit, a server came by who was very awkward. We asked questions but he gave us the bare minimum information about the... More

It is the best place to taste loads of different types of beers so a good place to go with friends or just by yourself to learn a little bit about beer with the waiters.
