We had the best service and food we have had on our Europe trip so far. I give it 110%! My partner and I had the tasting plate to share for starters and the salmon as fish of the day and the octopus! we also had the sangria which was just as good. I could not fault this place. Beautiful... More

Had a very satisfying dinner at this friendly restaurant. The rolicking Portuguese music added to the atmosphere. They have an olive and paprika chutney that comes with the bread. I found that very good. The salmon was great.

Friendly place with good atmosphere in good location on the side of the Amstel river, and good value quality eating.

I was pleasantly surprised of this small neighbourhood restaurant along the Amstel. I went for the Swordfish served with asparagus, anchovies, tomatoes and fried potatoes and would highly recommend it. We went on a Friday evening around 19:00h and was very lucky to get a seat. For the next time, I would definitely make a reservation. Service was slow and... More

We went to the Girassol twice on our recent visit to Amsterdam. The first time was on the recommendation of our B&B host and the second time was try the dish a neighbouring table had that looked interesting. Our first visit was lovely. We were greeted warmly at the door and seated quickly. We had a little appetizer at our... More

When I first moved here I heard from different people within the Portuguese community that there was a "real" Portuguese restaurant in town. Years later Girassol is still one of my favorite restaurants. And it's not just my nostalgic craving of our typical dishes. Whenever I go there most customers seemed to be a loyal crowd of local Dutch, mixed... More

This is my second time ever eating at a Portuguese restaurant and I have to say it's even better than the first time (in Hamburg). Killer tapas, very tender and flavourful octopus, followed by a cataplana seafood stew that was to die for. All that came with super friendly and personable service. It made me want to go to Portugal.... More

Last weekend my wife and I went to Amsterdam for one day, after a long walk we arrived at Girassol. After a warm welcome with delicious bread from the oven and some olives, we shared a starter this was braised vongole, this was delicious! As main course we had the cataplana, this was even better than we experienced in Portugal.... More

This restaurant has a lovely terrace on the River Amstel. We went for dinner on the first really warm evening of the year and so did everyone else it would seem. The kitchen was just overwhelmed. Waited a long time but enjoyed a good steak in the end. Chef came out to apologise because of the numbers.
