Description: Restaurant De Luwte has been a well-known establishment located at the Leliegracht in Amsterdam for over 27 years. This winter, it has renewed the look.As soon as you walk in you feel the warmth. Warmth coming from the cosy fireplace, but also the natural colors and materials surrounding you. You find yourself amongst the locals and internationals. Enjoy a nice glass of red wine by the fireplace, a special diner with a view over the Leliegracht or taste different cocktails below our vertical garden. The name 'De Luwte' means 'out of the wind' or a 'sheltered place'. De Luwte is a calm, relaxing spot in the centre of Amsterdam where you can escape the bustle of the city into a cosy and relaxing place. We have an international menu with a nod to the Mediterrenaen kitchen. To everyone's wish our menu is an affordable, obtainable and interesting answer.

We wanted a good restaurant after visiting the Anne Frank House. Even though I had mixed up an on-line reservation and De Luwte was quite busy, the staff was exceptionally accommodating and, after a brief wait at the excellent bar, we were seated at a fine table. The menu was interesting, the specials were just that, and the service was... More

The food is pretentious, over priced, and not particularly good. Our starter arrived directly from the fridge, and seeing as it was meant to be seared tuna we thought that was not so good. In general the ingredients are ok, but not presented particularly well. Things were made worse by the fact that we had a misunderstanding with the staff,... More

We walked past de Luwte as we walked about the city and its design caught our eye. They accommodated us for a reservation later that night. It was busy and while we had the seat at the window, we felt like we were on the terrace (without the smoke). The servers were really sweet but extremely understaffed and inconsistent. Somehow,... Came yesterday with friends. Starters were Ok nothing to get excited about but the main course 850gr steak to share for 2 was amazing and I could happily have eaten the lot by myself! A bit pricey but it is Amsterdam so kind of used to that. Nice atmosphere, open kitchen and fantastic home cooked chips, not the frozen rubbish... More

I had dinner here with my daughter in July 2014, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I think the food was really good, with good sized portions and a good taste, and presentation was also really nice, not too weird and not boring. The restaurant is really lovely, exactly my style, very cozy and warm with comfortable seating and good spacing... More

Located on the Leliegracht canal, this place reminds me of a small NYC bistro. We had the young hen stuffed with couscous and grapes... divine. Good wine list.

My husband and I thought that we would love this place based on the reviews but we were a little disappointed. They seemed to be severely understaffed and it took forever to get our food, wine etc. We only had one glass of water the whole time and it was never refilled. The steak was 65euro for two people and... More

This is a great little restaurant on the lovely Leliegracht Canal in Amsterdam. The food is outstanding, the portions are decent-sized, and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. They have wonderful meat and vegetarian options, and one cannot beat sitting outside beside the beautiful canal, sipping wine, and having a fine meal. The desserts, by the way, are also delicious.... We spent a week in Amsterdam and went here twice. Both times we had the tomahawk, which is a 30 oz. long bone ribeye for two. Comes with a great salad and a big bowl of fries. €65, I believe. Very good service and they made you feel very comfortable. I'd highly recommend. P.S. We ordered the steak medium both... More

On our visit to Amsterdam we stayed at the 't Hotel on Leliegracht. After a long day of walking we decided to eat at de Lewte which is only several doors up the street. Oddly, when I searched Trip Advisor for a restaurant recommendation on the map feature, it didn't come up despite having good reviews. Anyway, we were delighted... More
