Indonesian Rijstafel

I was in Amsterdam many years ago and really enjoyed having a Rijstafel - you might call it an Indonesian tapas. I was hungry to try it again and was not disappointed in the Sama Sebo which is located in a neighborhood pub behind the Park Hotel. I recommend reservations or get there early.

Everything is perfect, super staff, super food, nice location! We came in without a reservation, we know it's recommended to book a table. We had to wait 5 minutes witch was only 1, drinks served straight and after ordering the food it was on the table in 10 minutes. It's not a fancy restaurant, but I love the old Amsterdam... More

Gruff service, even with a reservation. Tacky, dirty decor. Over priced and aggressively mediocre food. But at least we did not get sick. Rushed us out, so as to turn the table. Avoid like the plague. It is that rotten an experience.

We came to Amsterdam knowing Indonesian food here is said to be great. We paid 31 euro each for the sampler dinner, more than we wanted to pay, but nobody regrets it. It was plenty of food and gave the opportunity to try a large variety. Very nice staff. If you don't want to pay for drinks, no problem asking... More

The service was very quick but we found the food was rather bland. Certainly there was nothing very spicy on offer. We gained the impression that the restaurant is well positioned on the tourist circuit and does not feel the need to try too hard. We have had much better Rijsttafel in other restaurants.

We made reservations for two for 6:30 pm on a Thursday in late April. The restaurant is located just one short block north of the Rijksmuseum tram stop. Reservations are required. We mentioned our reservation but the staff may have had trouble finding it and appeared a bit hesitant but we were seated immediately in the pleasant front dining room... More

Frankly speaking I have not much to say about the quality of the food in this restaurant. I can only comment about how they are organized, and how they are able to mistreat their customers. The story goes as follows: We tried to make a reservation for dinner by phone, but there was no available table before 9:30 pm. Despite... More

We tried on 3 occasions to get a table here, and finally succeeded on our last night in Amsterdam,by booking a few days ahead. The food was quite good, but it is incredibly busy, and the staff are keen to turn over the tables to seat the next group of people. Not a place for a relaxed evening. As we... More

We went to experience our firsft Rijstafel. It was convenient to our hotel. We had made reservations the day before with no problems. Our dining time was 6:00 on a Saturday night. There were very few people there and we were immediately seated and served. The majority of servers were elderly Indonesian men. The service was very fast. The food was... More

After a museum visit (Van Gogh) we found this restaurant nearby. We had wanted to try Indonesian food so went in. We couldvhave had a full rijstaffel butvopted for the lunch portions of nasi goreng (with rice) and bami goreng (fine noodles). We received large plates almost identical except for the noodles/rice. Side condiments of chili sauce. There were a... More
