Big square with nice shops and cafes.

It is a good if you want to sit and drink something in the summer. Is crowded with tourist but is still worth the visit!.

We randomly picked this place since we didn't have that much time to look for any other places. We loved it! The goat cheese with pine nut and honey on top of dried tomato toast was bomb. Highly recommend it.

Right at Dam can have a leisurely beer and lunch while watching all the people go by. A busy place. Food is average. Try the the Tuscan pyramid, a pretty good lunch salad. Service is quick and efficient. Only place so far which actively asks for a tip!

Honestly I had just enough of the fast food so I decided to go a bit healthy and I have no regrets! The Service was fast and great and its in the heart of Dam Square! The Salmon was very fresh and probably one of the best tasting I've ever had!

The plaza is filled with young people and a memorial to the fallen of WWII (however, the statute is odd and we needed to read a review of it to understand what it was. Two sides of the plaza are lined with restaurants. While we were there, there was construction on a large part of the plaza. So maybe without... More

Ordered a 3 type fish platter and a tomato soup. The soup was too spicy and the fish lacked seasoning and flavor. The waiter was a rude guy while the waitress were sweet and charming. Waited more than 20 mins for my order to arrive, when asked the waiter rudely remarked that it will come soon. There was a party... More

For people watching nothing beats this place! Massive crowds in the square and the outdoor cafes nearby. Does anyone work in Amsterdam? They are all at cafes. All signs are in English so it is a very easy city to visit for English speaking tourists.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
