Homely Indian food

Order from Murugan every friday. The food is cheap , tasty and so homely. The rotis are nice and soft and the curries are simple and nice. They also send garlic papad which is perfect. The takeaway quantities for curry are a little small. Maybe can do better there. You can definitely have this on... read more

located just behind the anne frank museum. We were pleasantly surprised to be served by a refreshing young Simran who was a surgeon helping out her dad(indians do not consider any work to be below their dignity.. thats what makes us great ),a shah rukh khan fan.the food was being freshly prepared and took some time but the wait was worth... We looked for an Indian restaurant near to our hotel and had a list of 2. The first was packed and told the first table would be free in about 45 minutes, so we carried on the the second and last on our list. When we were offered a choice of about 5 tables to eat our meal, I wondered... More

Murugan is close to Anne Frank house and is a nice cosy place. Its not very crowded and a decent place to have indian food. The best part are the chapatis. I think they are the best i have ever eaten!! But rest of the food is just ok. Maybe if the chapatis were just good, i would never visit... More

Quite honestly the worst meal I have ever been subjected to in a restaurant... or in my life for that matter. I imagine prisons have a better staff etiquette than this place. Firstly we were greeted (not unpleasantly... I'll give credit where it's due), before being seated and asked to wait. We were then left waiting for ten minutes for... More

Highly recommended for great Indian food at a reasonable price. The restaurant is run by a small family, and because of their nice friendly attitude it almost feels like you're eating at home. We go there often !

I have visited this place with my parents, we all loved food. Its authentic indian food in amsterdam. Ambience ok and service is little slow but it was worth to wait for yummy hot food served and that too cheap price.

Didn't like the taste of the food served, ambience was dull, no comparison to other fine dinning indian restaurants, good for eating indian food at cheap rate provided quality is not a factor.

This is by far the worst quality Indian food we ever tasted outside India. Not recommended for fine dinning at all.

Very good people running at very reasonable prices. Have a nice door delivery facility. Named after a baby elephant called murugan which wax given as a gift to the then prime ministers son by Jawaharlal Neharu in '83

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
