Great find

we always check out indian restaurants wherever we go, so finding this place was a great find. Staff seemed not sure what they were doing, the elderly gentleman that served us was excellant. Drinks a bit pricey but you have to expect that in Amsterdam. The food made up for everything else, excellent.

My sister, my daughter and I visited Balraj and we were a little worried as it was very busy and the staff seemed scatty. After a good while we got menus and eventually ordered. We waited a good while and when the food came we are heartily let me tell you. We had a tikka masala (nothing like what you... More

Samosas are excellent and served with mint sauce and spicy red sauce. Butter chicken was a bit sweet but tender. Main courses come with rice, tasty daal and chapati making it a good value. Service was friendly and food was delivered on a timely manner but not rushed. Overall a nice dinner.

The oldest Indian restaurant in Amsterdam. Went there for the first time for diner. Friendly staff and quick service. Started with papadums and vegetarian samosas, they were fresh and lovely. For main course we had 2 vegetarian curry dishes, paneer Tikka Masala and paneer Korma style. The paneer is homemade and both curries were really delicious, accompanied by yellow rice... More

We found this while looking in vain for somewhere to eat on a Friday night - everywhere was full but we just managed to squeeze in here and were glad we did. It is not exceptional but the food was nice and the staff friendly and eager to please. We initially thought it looked a bit pricey but all the... More

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Balraj and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any curry lovers. We had a chicken Mughalai and a chicken Kashmiri and both were beautifully cooked - the chicken was very tender. Out of the two dishes we preferred the Mughalai. The portion of rice was huge and went a long way between the... More

Was recommended to me by Indian colleagues at work and visited with my girlfriend. A small but friendly place with a great variety of dishes, very authentic and a great selection of vegetarian dishes. Good value too.

Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away.
