Food was ok. Service was without any attention and you DO NOT CLEAN THE TABLE WITH MY USED TISUE. I am soory to the cook that we can not grant more than 2 stars.

Having lived in Amsterdam for a number of years, we generally avoid Indian restaurants in The Netherlands as they are usually very bland and not at all comparable to the quality of indian restaurant in the UK. THIS RESTAURANT IS NO EXCEPTION. We decided to give this one a try on our way home from work one evening, almost as... More

Make a reservation as Balraj fills up fast especially on weekends. Good flavor, friendly service, apparently a local favorite.

We were treated at this restaurant by our local hosts, restaurant considered to be quite popular? Like many places in central Amsterdam, this restaurant is small(narrow). It is family run and small. We had a lot of starters and the main courses (We were a very large group). The food I would say was average, the service OK, not really... More

Balraj is a small Indian restaurant. One of the oldest in town. It has a lay-out that's typical for Amsterdam called 'pijpela' (literally drawer for pipes) which means that it is a long and narrow place with two rows of tables and a corridor in the middle, It's situated at the Haarlemmerdijk which is a very nice, lively street. Balraj... More

The food was pretty good! Didn't get the feeling they like tourists that much (the owner clearly greeted the local clients differently). However, I thought the service was good too and that they were very polite. Would definitely go back for more!

Good variety of Indian dishes all served with naan bread, rice and daal. Vegetarian for under €13. Now my first choice when in the area and looking for quick dinner.

I went to this restaurant in January 2013 and it was OK. I mean the decor/design were "OK" it did not remind me this comfy feeling of India and their spices. Also, the meal was "OK" not excellent for the reviews I had read on TripAdvisor. Their price were very good for INDIAN FOOD in the NETHERLANDS but still expensive... More

I was craving a curry while walking around Amsterdam. Took the "travellers' wager" and walked in. I wasn't disappointed. The right amount of spice, good but not too broad a selection, friendly service. Meals include a small daal, peas, and rice plus a roti. Enough to fill you, warm you and send you on your way. I'd go again.

I ate here December 2012 with a colleague from work as we fancied some Indian food. The restaurant is a short walk from the city centre and looks quite nice from the outside. Unfortunately that is where the nicety ends.. Both of our meals were average at best, being remarkably bland and lacking in flavour. The service wasn't great either,... More
