Impressive building, nice coffee, formal attitude

Pricy cafe that is located few minuted from Vondelpart. The espresso came with a delicious chocolate which tasted fantastic. The baulking and the room atmosphere is one of its kind due to the beauty of its decoration. Does look old, formal and can imagine some serious talking place here. Worths a... read more

A beautiful décor and the food and the service also very good. Our waiter was Carlos and he was fantastic. We were there for several breakfasts and Carlos soon learned how we liked our coffee etc. Made a great start to the day.

In a world where cookie-cutter hipsterism seems to permeate every aspect of the dining experience, it is nice to finally find something original and innovative that still stands out for its beauty and craft nearly a hundred years after being built. If you are just in Amsterdam for the puerile thrill of smoking weed in public, or to participate in... More

Amsterdam can be busy noisy and super relaxed and casual.. With a bacchanalian feel. This place is none of the above. I turned up to have a drink( my hotel was nearby) The staff are well drill and formal... I was not put off... In fact I found it refreshing. They gave me a great table... Front row seat to... More

We stopped in hesitantly to see the restaurant decorations of metal and stained glass plus wall paintings and the staff was most generous in allowing access and photography. Many people seemed to be enjoying their meal and so we decided to return for a cocktail a couple days later. We were hungry and decided to do a small splurge for... More

I stopped at cafe Americain for a coffee while I was walking around Amsterdam with my partner. It looked really posh, the enviroment was exceptional, with its stained glass windows, lights and history. The coffee came accompanied with a delicious chocolate. Everything were great, amazing space to experience but you could not help but feel that the glory days were... More

We stayed in the hotel and had meals and drinks in the restaurant. It was especially nice sitting outside under an umbrella and watching the world go by. The Art Deco architecture is stunning and gives an old world feel. The staff were very attentive and the food was excellent if somewhat a little overpriced, however this did not distract... More

We have ended our trips to Amsterdam here twice and though years apart the experience is the same. This time we took our friends who were equally pleased. The setting is wonderful sitting at a window overlooking the fountain, watching it change from day to night might have been enough. But then you look around at the Art Nouveau decor... More

I suppose most people eat here for the Art Nouveau décor and it is well worth it for just that. The food was good, not exceptional but I didn't feel that they were just resting on the atmosphere. Makes for a great lunch visit and is not far from the museum campus.

Had a nice lunch with friends and family. Liked the quality of the food and ambiance of the restaurant. The service was also quite nice, liked it overall. It is still a bit expensive yet it is a good one.
