The first time we tried the Sunday Roast

In the past, we often went here for the Sunday Jazz Brunch, Always very good. However they do not serve this every Sunday anymore and on 15th March they served the Sunday roast as a buffet. We were a bit dissapointed as the meat got cold, not a very big selection of vegs and only one selection of... read more

Tea at the Cafe Americain is a treat. A beautiful Art deco saloon, old fashioned waiters, starched linen, and a wonderful calm ambiance, perfect after a busy day. A good selection of interesting teas, and a room perfect for people watching. It was like stepping back in time. Recommended.

Beautiful Art Deco restaurant - worth seeing. Excellent food - onion soup, poulet noir, risotto ... Very poor service. Not rude, they just forget about you, and it is impossible find the wait staff to find out why your food is taken over an hour to come out from the kitchen. When you food comes the waiter freely blames everyone... More

Central location, warm and friendly atmosphere and perfect service. It was a real pleasure sitting there and enjoying our coffee and sweets after a long stroll in the city.

Visited twice, once for desert and coffee and again for brunch. Both times didn't disappoint. The interior is really interesting, such a pleasant room to be sat in. The value was good and the staff offered a good service.

Had a great time at Cafe American yesterday; Sunday Roast with live music. Food was excellent, nice music, great staff. Very cool decor and perfect location on Leidseplein (city centre). Cocktailbar next door is great too. Will be back!

This was disappointing. Food was uninteresting. Not worth the price. Service was okay, but not that good.

I went here for breakfast. They serve breakfast from 06:30 to 10:30. Wonderful! It's an amazing space in the "Grand Café" tradition. Quiet, respectful and civilised. The breakfast buffet had everything you expect from an upmarket hotel: smoked salmon, eggs, different sorts of breads, croissants, etc etc. The coffee was made individually for me, and brought to the table. The... More

The room is worth a visit, if only to enjoy the art nouveau splendor. Had dinner there, and it seems like the restaurant is a bit lost. For a Friday evening, it was very quiet. The service seems untrained and sloppy,, not at all unpleasant, just amateurish. I had a strong sense of a management that didn't care, as though... More

We had promised ourselves that we would pay this great restaurant /bar a visit some time during our holiday in Amsterdam. We went here on a Friday afternoon, just for a drink and even before you enter this pkace you cannot fail to be impressed by the illuminated fountains. The interior is totally amazing, art deco to the highest standard... More
