Fabulous dinner

We thought that the diner was fabulous, all of it, and there was a lot to eat. The atmosphere was stylish and soothing, and the service was very good. We asked for not-too- spicy, and found it all interesting and delicious. The waiter was lovely, although he was the only one for the dining... read more

It has been 25 years since I regularly visited the Netherlands on Navy Duty. Despite some economic problems it is a wealthier, perhaps more cosmopolitan, certainly more tourist dense destination, at least in late Spring. Indonesian restaurants in Rotterdam and Amsterdam back then were more akin to our Chinese and Thai places, a good family oriented place for an informal,... More

This was a memorable dinner. We were four, myself, my wife and two sons and the total compliment of guests was ten.Delicious Indonesian courses with champagne and wine included as we meandered down the canals and under bridges for two and half hours as far as the Maritime Museum. The launch was all vintage mahogany and yes also a loo! It was... More

A "small advance deposit" of 50€ per person (!) for a normal reservation?! I find this practice annoying and ridiculous and canceled my reservation. There are enough other good places for dinner in Amsterdam.

Excellent food with great service. Its a small restaurant with very nice food. Although the Sultan and I rijsttafel set menu is expensive it is worth it. There is more than enough food and it is of good quality. They are very accommodating of food allergies too. The only thing I would say is that its a bit inconvenient that... More

The brilliance of the cooking on offer at Blue Pepper is difficult to overstate. There is heat as one would expect but the triumph is the mouth-tingling blend of spices used by the chef/proprietess Sonja Pereira. Go for the Rijsttafel. Worth it!!

I introduced my family to Indonesian food at this restaurant and they loved it! The restaurant is small and cosy and the excellent service given by the knowledgeable staff was gracious and friendly. The tasting menu was an explosion of tastes, ranging from the fiery to some subtle very unusual flavours. The soup was really delicious. Each dish was a... More

This restaurant was recommended by a member of staff at our hotel and we enjoyed the food so much that we returned the following evening. The second occasion was on our last night in Amsterdam and I overheard other guests saying that they'd be back in that restaurant next day, so clearly they thought highly of it too. We'd never... Unlike its classic antecedents, Tempo Doeloe and Sama Sebo, Chef Sonja Pereira offers a new take on the classic Indonesian-inspired "rijsttafel" (rice-table). Same small plates (12 on her prix fixe menu) but served --artistically presented - two or three at a time and with really fine ingredients and spices. In varying preparations, we had scallops, shrimp, fish, chicken, beef, and... More

Blue Pepper is a small Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam. We decided on discovering the Indonesia's culinary treasure by means of the "Rijsttafel" and were definitely not disappointed on what was presented to us by the cook and the lovely service team. There was always a new spice to be discovered....
