Quaint restaurant with good service and food

No menu. Several choices for appy, dinner, and dessert. Had the steak with goat cheese and strawberry reduction. Unlike the last two reviews, my meal was gently spiced and the reduction was not sweet at all. I added pepper because I like my steak with lots of pepper. Had the soup starter... read more

This is a great place to visit if your having a chill/relax day. Staff are friendly & explain what's on the menu that day as no written or printed menu. Food is very good but being a small place it fills up very quickly. Well worth a visit, highly recommended.

We knew from other reviews that we would expect to wait. As it was we were able to be seated within 10 minutes. The human menu was really funny and they explained all the dishes clearly. We were recommended to try a miw of the starters for the 5 of us eating and this was perfect. They recommended a great... More

We had high hopes after reading all the reviews but it was really not good. Waited a long time to be seated as expected, but the waitress was friendly and we had a drink so no problems there. The spoken menu was quirky but I would have liked more time to make a choice with a printed or written menu.... More

The unwritten menu is a novelty, but lots of places manage to print out a daily menu... Apparently the signature steak dish has been on the menu from the beginning and was something we'll be talking about for a long time, but not for the right reasons.

Thank you for taking time writing a review. Below my comment: Since The first day this restaurant opens it doors, now 17 years ago, we don't have a written menu. We explain you the menu at the table to make it a more personal experience, to answer questions about the menu and to make you feel comfortable and welcome in... More

What a find this place was! We decided to visit this place based on a few of the reviews here - the idea of a restaurant without a menu was intriguing - but, apart from what we'd read here, we knew nothing about the restaurant. As others have mentioned there are a few things you'll need to know before visiting:... More

Lovely place in the center of Amsterdam. It's in a small street really close by Dam Square, but it's far from confusion. I went twice! The menù changes often, dishes are so good. Girls are lovely.

Our B&B owner recommended and was spot-on. Very casual atmosphere with splendid food. Don't be intimidated by the lack of a written menu - the wait staff explains the options very clearly and the meals are simply delicious. I enjoyed the best meatloaf (yes meatloaf) I've eaten in 50 years - seasonings were wonderful. Make a reservation as it's rather... More

There are no written menus here - instead the lovely 'talking menu' waiter sat down at our table and talked us through the dishes on offer. When we couldn't decide on a starter he immediately offered to bring us a selection plate of everything and adapted it especially for the vegetarian member of our group so she had more options.... The best meal i had in amsterdam! Space & crowded, but was seated right away. The staff was friendly. There is no menu, so the waiter had the describe the menu. I ordered the tender Beef with strawberry sauce and goat cheese which was fantastic. My friend ordered the chicken and the meat was falling off the bone. The dessert... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
