Upon entering the restaurant I knew my fiancé and I were in for a treat. I was glad I had made reservations. We watched several potential patrons be turned away. One family was particularly unhappy about it and the owner had to talk to them out in the street. The menu was confusing. While everything sounded good, my fiancé and... More

We ordered a Rijsttafel, which gave us a great sample of Indonesian food, something we hadn't tried before. Every single dish was excellent, and the fiery final plate was extremely hot, as requested! The lady who seemed to be the manager/owner was great too, a real character. One snag, which I must mention as it annoyed us, is the refusal... More

Our Amsterdam hotel recommended and made the dinner reservation at Tempo Doloe for a rijstaffel 'rice table' dinner. Our family of four adults have traveled and lived in Southeast Asia a good bit but not in Indonesia, so we were looking forward to Amsterdam's famous rijstaffel. Perhaps the disappointing tone of the dinner was set from the start: the chilly,... More

I spent a few years living in Australia, where I had Indonesian food for the first time. I heard about this place in the Lonely Planet guidebook, and booked a table when my wife and I were in Amsterdam. The food was very good, service was excellent, very warm and hospitable, and the atmosphere was also very enjoyable.

It's a fancy place you have to ring a bell to be let in. The food was good but you can only get bottled water which is annoying. Fun to try the variety of foods- a mix between Thai and sort of Indian foods. Pretty expensive- over $160 for a family of 4 so make sure you are ready to... More

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time and effort to write a review. *This actually goes for everyone who did.* There is just one thing I would like to bring to your attention, in an upmost humble way - as we are communicating via this medium. Our kitchen only prepares authentic Indonesian dishes, so there is no connection with... More

We visited this restaurant three nights ago and did so on the basis of the BIB Gourmand rating it received from the Michelin guide. We did not make a reservation but managed to get a cramped table between the kitchen and main dining room. We were promptly served with menus and order our beers but were informed that they do... I have eaten in the most famous restaurants around the world and I must say that this was a treat. The food was more than excellent. The service was ok but they had a very nice woman (I forget her name) who really went out of her way. I am not sure if she was owner or what, but she... More

What a treat. The selection is extensive. we were greedy and went for the full deal Rijstaffel. They had a spectrum of mild to tasty stews and super spicy curries. Smoking hot so beware when warned. Tight dining space and service was quite standoffish - but who goes for superb service in an Indonesian restaurant? We will visit again if... More

Had never had Indonesian food before and was somewhat hesitant when a business meeting was scheduled here during a recent conference. Our table of five ordered some type of sampler meal where a variety of dishes were brought out. Everything was exceptional. The seafood (lobster, shrimp, scallops), the beef, and vegetarian selections were all very well prepared with just the... More

Highly recommended by a friend and didn't disappoint. We also had the high end rjistaffell for six diners and fantastic. Perfectly prepared to our specs. The wait staff was terrific and very helpful with its recommendations and explanations. The wine list had good variety and was moderately priced. If we lived in Amsterdam, we would be frequent visitors.
