Amsterdam weekend

Found this restaurant on trip adviser, loved the reviews and really wanted to try some Indonesian food. I was on a short break with 4 friends from the UK and was able to book a table really easily by sending an email. The restaurant called back to confirm the booking. Our server recommended the "rice plates" to us which is basically a selection of sample size dishes, so we can try every one of them out. However, most of the dishes seem the same with some minor differences such as toppings, sauce etc. Overall, I think the food is good, but I would avoid the rice plates if you know... More

This was my second visit to Tempo Doeloe. This is not the kind of restaurant I would visit often, but it's nice when I want to try something different. I arrived with a reservation and sat near the bar. The service is professional, excellent and quick; I never had to wait long for food or drinks. Atmosphere is nice and... More

Had dinner here during a recent visit to Amsterdam.Small intimate restaurant where you have to ring the doorbell to gain entry( good to reserve a table) .Staff were pleasant and attentive throughout our visit and offered lots of advice re the menu .We plumped for the Rice Table which was certainly a bit of a tour de force and we... I've heard it said that Amsterdam has the best Indonesian restaurant outside of Indonesia and my visit here give a lot of Creedon to that claim. It's a small intimate restaurant and the staff were very attentive. I had the rice plate which gave a good variety of different dishs and really enjoyed it. I look forward to going again... More

Watched a very popular chef, TV personality recommend this place. Since I was staying just a block away, figured I would try to get reservations. Place was booked for the week but they squeezed me in since we had a big party. We all ordered the highest priced rice dish which includes everything below. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend's son who works in Amsterdam. It is small and was very warm and welcoming on a rainy night. Given the limited number of tables it is worth reserving. The menu is extensive but the best option is the ristaffel or rice table. Even within the various ristaffels one may choose how... More

Both the staff and the food were amazing.they were extremely helpful in explaining the menu, great service overall. The taster menu was amazing, in spite of the somewhat high price. 100% worth it. Useful to make a booking beforehand, as we only managed to get a table at 9pm on a Tuesday.

It's difficult to find a more authentic Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam - Tempo Doeloe is cozy and offers delicious and exotic Indoensian dishes including a traditional rijstafel for affordable prices, and in a great location just a quick walk from the Rembrandtplein.
