Description: Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active café-and-nightlife...
Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active café-and-nightlife neighborhood has been hot, hot, hot ever since it opened in 2005. Everything about it gets rave reviews: the menu, the bar, the club, the restaurant and the terrace, oh, and the genuine friendliness of the staff. Décor is tastefully modern with dark wood, leather seating, lilac and violet touches. The ground floor bar and Comfortable Dining Area morph into a club around eleven or so (weekend closing is 4am). The upstairs dining room is also tastefully modern. The truly inventive food is global fusion, like starter of pressing of wild duck and seasonal mushrooms with winter plum and chilli compote, crisp duck salad, foie gras lollipop and balsamic syrup, seemingly-simple main of burger becomes a Wagyu burger (birth certificate available on request) on hazelnut brioche with onion confit, sautéed foie gras, fried duck egg, hand cut chips and home made ketchup. Everything is made fresh here, from the bread to the famous ice creams. Up to 250 can take over the venue. There are three daily changing menus, 4- and 6-course tasting menus and an 8-course gourmet menu. Rain’s philosophy includes delight, refreshment and inspiration, and the hip, affluent crowd who gathers here seems to agree.

Ok

The food was as we expected but portion sizes were enormous and we left nearly all our chips. Would not have ordered a starter if I had known! Reading the other reviews I have to say our service was very good but you don't get your own waiter which is a bit impersonal but all were polite.

We went on a Friday evening and the place wasn't very busy. Staff were very polite, very happy with the service we were given. We ordered sirloin steaks which were perfect, lovely fries too and big portions which made what we paid seem like great value! Only slightly annoying thing was that when we asked for sauces they mixed them... More

Spotted Rain and thought it looked lovely for a bit of dinner, so myself and my friend popped in. First of all it was freezing inside. Second we ordered cocktails which were fine. Then we got bread baskets for a starter also grand, but there was nothing grand about the main meal at all. I ordered chicken Mexican rolls with... More

We had tickets for the ballet, so we were in the neighborhood and looking for a place to eat. My husband did not want to eat somewhere that called themselves an American Grill, but I just wanted to be able to read the menu in English and we only had a limited amount of time to eat. I ordered the... More

We ordered 3 burgers, a mixed grill and a surf n' turf. Buns were either stale or wet, salad tasted like mango for some reason and the red wine tasted like cheap vodka with red water. The burger beefs were the worst though. Beyond well done and tasted like a cheap spice mix, and nothing else. They should definitely stick... More

Been out all day, had a few beers, a good walk round and bumped into this busy place and found it to be very good. Im surprised by my findings as ive just read the reviews which are very damming to say the least. We had good service, great food and decent wine and beers. So sometimes don't judge a... More

It was all very simple and some dishes too dry. Indonesian food is much better tahnb that. Mind you, the place is quite nice and the situation perfect to have a drink afterwards

Being in the heart of the most vibrant square and surrounded by a plethora of restaurants and clubs , The Rain , stands out as an American / Mexican restaurant serving the most delicious food . We reached at almost closing time but they still welcomed us and made us comfortable . The food was served pretty quickly and the... More

I went here with 9 girls, we waited quite ahile for the food. The waiter also went to place a tray of glasses on the table and smashed 4 of them all over our table and some of the girls. so a bit catastophic, however after the long wait and small waiter incident - everyone went instantly silent as the...
