Description: Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active...
Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active café-and-nightlife neighborhood has been hot, hot, hot ever since it opened in 2005. Everything about it gets rave reviews: the menu, the bar, the club, the restaurant and the terrace, oh, and the genuine friendliness of the staff. Décor is tastefully modern with dark wood, leather seating, lilac and violet touches. The ground floor bar and Comfortable Dining Area morph into a club around eleven or so (weekend closing is 4am). The upstairs dining room is also tastefully modern. The truly inventive food is global fusion, like starter of pressing of wild duck and seasonal mushrooms with winter plum and chilli compote, crisp duck salad, foie gras lollipop and balsamic syrup, seemingly-simple main of burger becomes a Wagyu burger (birth certificate available on request) on hazelnut brioche with onion confit, sautéed foie gras, fried duck egg, hand cut chips and home made ketchup. Everything is made fresh here, from the bread to the famous ice creams. Up to 250 can take over the venue. There are three daily changing menus, 4- and 6-course tasting menus and an 8-course gourmet menu. Rain’s philosophy includes delight, refreshment and inspiration, and the hip, affluent crowd who gathers here seems to agree.

We dropped by for drinks late on a saturday night in July 2915. Did not try the food, but the staff was friendly and people seem to have a good time. Lots happening in the area.

Me and my partner ate here before reading any reviews and I was shocked to see the amount of bad ones it has. Whilst I thought the interior was a little bit scruffy, the food was amazing. It arrived in good time and I've no complaints about it at all... only that I couldn't try more things from the menu!... More

The worst service I experienced in the whole of Amsterdam. Staff just didn't care, couldn't be bothered to do simple things like take away when they can see we're finished. Ordered drinks - waited 15 minutes (at least because the starter had arrived) and our drinks still hadn't come. Asked about it and it turns out the waitress didn't even... More

Not very comfortable. Waiter was miserable. Seat's are in front of door which was wide open and windy and cold as well. We have ordered steak and they have NO Steak knives !!!!. The food is getting cold quickly due to being in front of door. We love to eat steak but here we are happy to make an exception!.

The food is decent (nothing great, but a good price), but it's the service (especially by this old, miserable-looking man) that makes this place awful. As an American living in Ams, I was excited at having an American food place in my neighborhood. I asked them if I could have half of two side dishes, and ordering two would be... More

Not made to feel welcome. Waiter was miserable. Seated in front of door which was wide open and frankly cold. Asked for a bottle of wine and was given a vase. No idea whether fresh or not. Ordered steak and weren't given steak knives. Food went cold quickly due to being in front of door. After struggling I was handed... More

We enjoyed a great meal here. Sat outside under the heaters watching the square was very relaxing. The service was a bit slack however, when the waiter approached us all he asked was "what do we want". The only faults with the food would be the pudding which was quite disappointing, & the starter we shared a bread basket with... More

Right in the city centre and walking distance from all interesting places of Amsterdam. The night was a little bit cold for May but still pleasant to dine outside. The tomato soup was nothing special as it seems to be from can or pack but the rump steak was very good. Cooked to perfection with fries and salad. For the... More
