Description: Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active café-and-nightlife neighborhood has been hot, hot, hot ever since it opened in 2005. Everything about it gets rave reviews: the menu, the bar, the club, the restaurant and the terrace, oh, and the genuine friendliness of the staff. Décor is tastefully modern with dark wood, leather seating, lilac and violet touches. The ground floor bar and Comfortable Dining Area morph into a club around eleven or so (weekend closing is 4am). The upstairs dining room is also tastefully modern. The truly inventive food is global fusion, like starter of pressing of wild duck and seasonal mushrooms with winter plum and chilli compote, crisp duck salad, foie gras lollipop and balsamic syrup, seemingly-simple main of burger becomes a Wagyu burger (birth certificate available on request) on hazelnut brioche with onion confit, sautéed foie gras, fried duck egg, hand cut chips and home made ketchup. Everything is made fresh here, from the bread to the famous ice creams. Up to 250 can take over the venue. There are three daily changing menus, 4- and 6-course tasting menus and an 8-course gourmet menu. Rain’s philosophy includes delight, refreshment and inspiration, and the hip, affluent crowd who gathers here seems to agree.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, we are fussy eaters and we loved the food. So scrummy, lovely staff, and a free bread basket!!

having read some negative reviews about this restaurant I felt compelled to write about our experience. We ordered the burger, and I must say it was excellent. Real juices flowing and nice and thick. Being in Amsterdam, my only criticism of the burger was the processed cheese used, when so many local cheeses could have given this review five stars.... More

Went here with friends late October but service was incompetent and very very slow and when we voiced our concerns the manager was totally unhelpful . My advice -choose somewhere else,

Eight of us had an evening meal at Rain in October. We waited absolutely ages for the meals to arrive during which we were plied with alcohol; when the meals finally came one member of our party had nothing to eat at all. We had to spend ages negotiating to get him a replacement meal. What was really annoying was... More

Food here was very good but wasn't cheap. We wouldn't have eaten here normally having looked at the prices but we had holiday money to use up so treated ourselves. Had a rump steak which was excellent. If you're getting dessert go for the chocolate brownie, it is honestly the best I've had.

Dined here recently. It's a bit like the Fawlty towers dining experience. Staff prefer shooting the breeze with their friends. Wrong food brought to table. Food of mediocre to poor quality. Staff had no idea about wines. No atmosphere. Best avoided.

I can see why some people gave this restaurant a bad review since our server was a bit slow getting us a menu, water etc... but the food was good and the host actually kicked out rowdy guests when they started acting loud. I shouldn't say kicked out, more like he talked to them quietly for a few minutes and... More

My friends and I stopped here for some good and a beer. We were a bit worried about the bad reviews as we didn't read these until we had sat down! I don't understand the comments at all. The staff were really friendly, the owner very welcoming. The good was lovely. We had nachos to share but had to ask... More

Stopped here at about 9:30pm with my mum for a quick bite before we went to the Ice Bar- we got lost and stumbled on this place, and I'm glad we did. We were greeted immediatly and sat down by a waiter who said he was from Belgium. He was very friendly and was a genuinely warm person. We ordered... More

The outside of the restaurant gives the impression that it is good, but that is where it stops. The staff are rude and the food was either burnt to a crisp or completely undercooked. Other customers where seen arguing with staff as they would not let them leave the premises until they had paid for their meals which hadn't even... More
