Description: Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active...
Rain bar, restaurant and club in Amsterdam’s most active café-and-nightlife neighborhood has been hot, hot, hot ever since it opened in 2005. Everything about it gets rave reviews: the menu, the bar, the club, the restaurant and the terrace, oh, and the genuine friendliness of the staff. Décor is tastefully modern with dark wood, leather seating, lilac and violet touches. The ground floor bar and Comfortable Dining Area morph into a club around eleven or so (weekend closing is 4am). The upstairs dining room is also tastefully modern. The truly inventive food is global fusion, like starter of pressing of wild duck and seasonal mushrooms with winter plum and chilli compote, crisp duck salad, foie gras lollipop and balsamic syrup, seemingly-simple main of burger becomes a Wagyu burger (birth certificate available on request) on hazelnut brioche with onion confit, sautéed foie gras, fried duck egg, hand cut chips and home made ketchup. Everything is made fresh here, from the bread to the famous ice creams. Up to 250 can take over the venue. There are three daily changing menus, 4- and 6-course tasting menus and an 8-course gourmet menu. Rain’s philosophy includes delight, refreshment and inspiration, and the hip, affluent crowd who gathers here seems to agree.

Poor service

I cannot complain about the food at all. We have nachos for our starter and had the mixed grill each for the main, which consisted of salmon, king prawns, steak and lamb rack and was delicious. However, the service was very poor. It took a long time for someone to take our order and we also waited... read more

The food was very good, fresh and great flavours. Service wise, not so great. Originally we had a guy serve us and he was absolutely fine but then once his shift was over we had a couple of girls who didn't appear to know what there job roles were, had to literally wave arms around to get a drink. Compliments... More

The service is terrible! I couldn't believe they allowed a drunken waiter. Dishes kept falling on the floor, even the new orders. Finally, I asked for the check and it didn't came. I paid on the counter eventually. Never again!!! Avoid at all cost!!!

We had a very good meal. Enjoyed some Tenderloin and RibEye Steaks of excellent quality. Service also was good. We payed about 60 EUR for two persons, which is ok. We certainly would come back at our next trip to Amsterdam. Recommended!

Don't waste your time! We came here out of convenience as we were staying next to Rembrant square. When the four of us were seated we were told "we'll bring you menus in 5 minutes time"... 15 minutes later, as we still had not received a menu, we requested one from a different waiter and were told that they were... Although the food was good the service ruined the atmosphere and vibe of our meal. Actively tried to get any waiters attention for 30+ min to order more drinks and never found success. Although we did find our waitress outside smoking a cigarette.

Lovely looking restaurant from the outside but the service completely lets it down. My friend & I visited here before a bar event. We were seated very quickly and got served our drinks promptly. Waited around 20 minutes before the waitress took our food order. After this we over heard the bar tender telling other tables that there would be... More

Given the prime location Rain does not deserve to be in business. The restaurant was not busy but we waited an hour for our food. When it arrived it was burnt and inedible. We left without paying, just as we had watched several others leave. Definitely NOT recommended.

Came here with a group of 8 girls. 6 of us ordered nachos, none of us could attempt to eat them. They were rock hard, no mince, and cheese (what there was of it) was hard. We physically couldn't pick one up to even try it. Explained to the waitress who was the most rude person i have encountered, who... More
