Pasta e Basta restaurant nearly opposite the Rijksmuseum has a name that simply doesn’t do it justice. It means ‘pasta full stop’ but really should trumpet the singing accomplishments and mad party atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses deliver. The dining room is splendid, with scarlet-covered chairs, flouncy wall sconces, dramatic drapes and fine art, while the bar area is more modern but just as operatic. The wait staff really truly can sing, everything from Billy Joel to grand opera, and they get the joint jumping. The long tables attract hens and big groups and the small cosy niches and bar are right for more intimate numbers, and it is just one fantastic evening. The menu is Italian, incorporating excellently-sourced meat, fish and veg. Anti pasti are served buffet-style from a chilled grand piano. Main courses always include eight pasta dishes like spaghetti with squid ragout, lasagne bolognaise with tapenade and sage, and penne with radicchio and goats cheese. International wine list matches the international musical programme. Groups are so welcome, and the entire venue seats 110.

Great Entertainment a and good food

All the waiters and waitresses sing. There is a wide variety of pasta dishes to choose from and you get to taste 3 types. There is also a very large appetizer buffet. The wine was also excellent.

Italian food served family style. We had just come from Rome and I think this was better. Their chef is from Italy too! Great antipasto bar and choice of 3 past dishes. All the servers sing and entertain throughout dinner. So much fun and very different! Have the limoncello!

Not normally a fan of the free entertainment with meal but this was a great night. Food was unexpectedly good. Service was great, very friendly staff, decent wine list. Atmosphere fantastic. Will be back.

This was a catastrophe! Totally over-priced restaurant. Nearly 40 euros for antipasti and pasta? Rip off! Antipasti was in a buffet table, we were on the 2nd setting of the evening, so we first ate some leftovers from the first setting. We chose 3 pastas and they were served in cheap IKEA dessert bowls and we got plates in a... More

This was recommended to me and was one of the best experiences ever. The food was good, the service excellent but the entertainment was exceptional, if your going to Amsterdam you have to book this its a truly special evening.

Old fashioned atmosphere, red velvet, shabby chic. nice atmosphere. Lovely friendly and helpful staff who are talented singers. We arrived around 7.30, where the singing was frequent and entertaining when we left around 10pm the place was more or less empty but perhaps that was because it was a sunday night. . 37 euros for buffet style appetisers and one... A must go at least once! Great singers with different styles of music. Every 15 minutes a different performance by the waiters and waitresses. Great italian food... Starts with a buffet, after a choice of pasta's and finishes with a grand dessert. It's a night out at only €29,50 per person. All dishes created with a touch of Michelin starred... More
