Pasta e Basta restaurant nearly opposite the Rijksmuseum has a name that simply doesn’t do it justice. It means ‘pasta full stop’ but really should trumpet the singing accomplishments and mad party atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses deliver. The dining room is splendid, with scarlet-covered chairs, flouncy wall sconces, dramatic drapes and fine art, while the bar area is more modern but just as operatic. The wait staff really truly can sing, everything from Billy Joel to grand opera, and they get the joint jumping. The long tables attract hens and big groups and the small cosy niches and bar are right for more intimate numbers, and it is just one fantastic evening. The menu is Italian, incorporating excellently-sourced meat, fish and veg. Anti pasti are served buffet-style from a chilled grand piano. Main courses always include eight pasta dishes like spaghetti with squid ragout, lasagne bolognaise with tapenade and sage, and penne with radicchio and goats cheese. International wine list matches the international musical programme. Groups are so welcome, and the entire venue seats 110.

Fun dining with a singing service

We walked in not knowing there was a singing service and had a pleasant surprise. Food was good, although the menu doesn't allow for a very big selection of dishes. Still they had pasta for kids and a vegetarian choice for the adults.

An amazing dining experience with very talented staff, excellent service and great food. You get the choice of three dishes to share all of which were very good. Live music is playing in the back ground with the waiters and waitresses breaking out into song singing a wide range of genres throughout the night! A truly delightful meal, a must... More

We had dinner at Pasta e Basta for the first time last week, was easy to book thanks to the holiday season. The singers/waiters are really artistic and sang great melodies. This added up to our birthday celebration. Food is real italian. Antipasti are served over the piano on which someone played all evening. Main course is a selection of... More

Some years since we went ,but planning another trip and wanted to know if it was still there.Any directions saying its almost opposite the Reiksmuseum are false,it might be in a line with it but you cross at least two canals and i would guess your between 10 and 15 minutes walk away (if you know where your going). This was... The staff sings - all kinds of music and they are wonderful. They also serve beautifully. The anti-pasta (salad) bar is presented in the body of the grand piano. The food was very good, reasonable and such a great, pleasant, fun atmosphere!

It was my second time at Pasta e Basta and I was with a very special friend in Amsterdam. So, I wanted to make her a suprise and booked a table at Pasta e Basta, without telling her about all the singing waiter/waitress thing. She was delighted, as everyone else in the room. The service is outstanding, the food is... More

Okay, in the spirit of full disclosure - Let me start by saying that I almost gave this place two stars but ended up giving one because - here goes - our bill for two people was 160 and we decided to pitch in 85 each and after we explained how much we wanted to be billed on each card... More

Our hotel recommended this restaurant for us, and we were so glad they did. This place is a singing restaurant and all of the staff are professionally trained (or being trained) singers. They will all perform for the restaurant at various stages of the night, and whilst gimmicky places like this can tend to lack for quality in their food,... More

We had a good dinner at Pasta e Basta in Amsterdam. A pretty restaurant, good food and waiters who sing! You pick things to share at your table and go up to an antipasta bar at the piano. The waitstaff are great singers and performers. A fun and different dining experience!
