Pasta e Basta restaurant nearly opposite the Rijksmuseum has a name that simply doesn’t do it justice. It means ‘pasta full stop’ but really should trumpet the singing accomplishments and mad party atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses deliver. The dining room is splendid, with scarlet-covered chairs, flouncy wall sconces, dramatic drapes and fine art, while the bar area is more modern but just as operatic. The wait staff really truly can sing, everything from Billy Joel to grand opera, and they get the joint jumping. The long tables attract hens and big groups and the small cosy niches and bar are right for more intimate numbers, and it is just one fantastic evening. The menu is Italian, incorporating excellently-sourced meat, fish and veg. Anti pasti are served buffet-style from a chilled grand piano. Main courses always include eight pasta dishes like spaghetti with squid ragout, lasagne bolognaise with tapenade and sage, and penne with radicchio and goats cheese. International wine list matches the international musical programme. Groups are so welcome, and the entire venue seats 110.

Great unexpected Italian piano bar

After wandering along the canals of Amsterdam, we stumbled this Italian restaurant that looked busy, even though it was before 6pm. After sitting at our table, the waiter told us that is was a piano bar with live music and all the waiters/waitresses would, in turn, be singing. They were not all... read more

The food and service were excellent. Nice, open atmosphere, seating for 50 or so. The best part was the live performances by singers, singing many different styles. AS each performer sang, they walked through the restaurant and involved the patrons. They are all very talented performers, and very engaging. Would definitely recommend, and would gladly go back.

What can I say?? We loved it here!! A group of 6, including 2 couples and we had such a great evening. The singers are absolutely AMAZING!! The food isn't as good as the talent but still yummy! At the end of the night everybody was up dancing, really letting their hair down! I would recommend the later booking, as... More

In January 2016 I proposed to my girlfriend at the venue Pasta e Basta. Both the office and the staff at the restaurant were very helpful and flexible in organizing the event. We were able to integrate the proposal into the musical program of that night, which made it very special and personal for us. Besides all the effort that... More

I've been to this place with a group after a business meeting in Amsterdam. Regarding the food, it was not more than standart but not bad as well. On the other hand, the staff were singing togetjer with a live piano, and this wass very nice.

I swear I never eat Italian food outside Italy, but the very nice atmosphere and my tiredness after a long day walking got me into this restaurant. What a mistake. When I realised how poor and overpriced the menu was, I had already ordered a drink at the bar. They probably bring the menu after, so that it's too late... More

Booked via the internet for my husband's birthday (he had been before with colleagues). It was nice that they acknowledged special events of the diners celebrating such by mentioning it and the singers singing part of their items to them. The singing episodes were at about 15 minute intervals. Found the menu choice somewhat restrictive - either antipasti and a... More

Visited following a recommendation. Staff and food were excellent and the added musical experience was thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit. Menu is pretty set so you can expect antipasta buffet (average) and a choice of pasta dishes (some good, some excellent). The wine options were excellent.

This is a wonderful restaurant that has two sittings. The theme is that all the waiters and waitresses sing at various intervals throughout the evening. All the old classical favourites that we could sing along to, we had such fun. The food was ok nothing to write home about, antipasto followed by pasta done several ways. Great evening.
