Pasta e Basta restaurant nearly opposite the Rijksmuseum has a name that simply doesn’t do it justice. It means ‘pasta full stop’ but really should trumpet the singing accomplishments and mad party atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses deliver. The dining room is splendid, with scarlet-covered chairs, flouncy wall sconces, dramatic drapes and fine art, while the bar area is more modern but just as operatic. The wait staff really truly can sing, everything from Billy Joel to grand opera, and they get the joint jumping. The long tables attract hens and big groups and the small cosy niches and bar are right for more intimate numbers, and it is just one fantastic evening. The menu is Italian, incorporating excellently-sourced meat, fish and veg. Anti pasti are served buffet-style from a chilled grand piano. Main courses always include eight pasta dishes like spaghetti with squid ragout, lasagne bolognaise with tapenade and sage, and penne with radicchio and goats cheese. International wine list matches the international musical programme. Groups are so welcome, and the entire venue seats 110.

It was really refreshing to experience something a little different whilst on holiday. The piano player, and the singing waiters/waitresses made this a unique dining experience. We had the four course set menu which was very nice - couldn't have eaten more. I'd definitely go again.

Went with friends who had been there before and recommended this brilliant place. The staff, from waiters to cooks all sing for you, anything from Opera to pop and they Could sing and they sing in all different languages. The food is good, all Italian with a buffet style Antipasti starter and then a choice of Pasta main meals. We... More

Singers are fantastic, the staff are lovely and friendly and I liked the food but the rest of my group didn't. It wasn't what we thought at all as everyone basically just listens to the singers and it lacked atmosphere. As soon as the food was eaten we left. Wouldn't go again and wouldn't recommend

Went here in July 2015 after me and my friend got lost in time strolling for modern art pieces in the area and then we finally realised that it was dinner time already. Have heard so much about the place but never actually got the chance to try it out. So I tried my luck, walked in there without any... More

What a surprise when you enter the basement to find this restaurant......The atmosphere was great, the food was very good and the singing waiters were unbelievable. The cost of this, food for 6 with 3 bottles of wine was 130 euros per couple......It was like having dinner and a show......a must to visit while in Amsterdam

Came here on the fly after a heavy day of museum and river cruising. This restaurant was recommended by I Amsterdam, so I went hunting for it and was not disappointed. I had not booked, so I was seated at the bar but the bar was exceedingly pleasant and this did not detract from the dining experience. The staff were... More

A great idea and lovely food . However we were kept waiting by the entrance for a while before any one came to greet us which was disappointing especially as I was required to call to confirm my booking earlier in the day. This was a meal for my daughter's 21st birthday and despite stating they would sing Happy Birthday... More
