Description: Pasta e Basta restaurant nearly opposite the Rijksmuseum has a name that simply doesn’t do it justice. It means ‘pasta full stop’ but really should trumpet the singing accomplishments and mad party atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses deliver. The dining room is splendid, with scarlet-covered chairs, flouncy wall sconces, dramatic drapes and fine art, while the bar area is more modern but just as operatic. The wait staff really truly can sing, everything from Billy Joel to grand opera, and they get the joint jumping. The long tables attract hens and big groups and the small cosy niches and bar are right for more intimate numbers, and it is just one fantastic evening. The menu is Italian, incorporating excellently-sourced meat, fish and veg. Anti pasti are served buffet-style from a chilled grand piano. Main courses always include eight pasta dishes like spaghetti with squid ragout, lasagne bolognaise with tapenade and sage, and penne with radicchio and goats cheese. International wine list matches the international musical programme. Groups are so welcome, and the entire venue seats 110.

They have a spot camera on the piano player shown on screens around the restaurant and the young wait staff take turns to do what they really want to do - sing. This restaurant was not on our list but was suggested to us by a local as a fun night. Its a simple menu of pasta and you make... More

Don't come here if you want a gastronomic experience , but for a great night out it doesn't disappoint. Despite the Dutch fisher wives who constantly cackled away on the adjacent table, we were asked to respect the singing waitresses during the evening meal and with some reason. They tried hard and were pretty good. Food was limited to a... More

The restaurant is a cozy place and the staff was all very friendly! The food was delicious - good size portion and well prepared. I was a single diner so I sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly but not overbearing - attentive but not bothersome. The highlight was that all the staff are also the entertainment! They... We tried here after the pasta was recommended. The portions are large but I have had better pasta for less elsewhere as the set menu for two courses was expensive. The main attraction is the fantastic singing by the waiting staff which was totally unexpected from opera to soul. Great if a group of friends are going but possibly not... More

The owners of our B&B suggested Pasta E Basta and it was great. The food was excellent but what really stood out was the singing by the servers. Very professional and fun evening. Would go back in a heartbeat!

19 of us were staying in Amsterdam for the weekend and ate at Pasta e Basta on a Saturday evening. It's essential to book beforehand as the restaurant was completely full, and at €45 for 3 courses, it's not cheap but is great value! The food was fresh and delicious and the portions are quite big. The night started with... More

The Italian food was fantastic and so was the service. But the entertainment is what sets this place apart from others. Lots of great live music and singing. My wife and I had lots of fun eating and drinking and singing. Definitely will return.

We were a group of 20 people who dined together on a Friday night. The italian food was really good, and the singing waiters actually managed to get us up on tables dancing after the meal. The restaurant is not very big, and they fill it to the rim - but when the food is great Italian and the atmosphere... More

The waiters were great entertainers, singing everything from opera to blues through our visit. Not the place to go if you want to talk with your company, or if you want to sit well. The antipasta and the pastas was average, and so was the general service.
