You expect a lot from a Michelin rated restaurant and La Rive delivers. When my wife and I travel to Europe, we try to dine at the highest rated restaurant in each city. We were glad we chose La Rive.

I'm American and I travel a lot and am always in search of an amazing meal, La Rive produced one that 3 years later I'm still drooling and craving to experience again. 5 courses becomes more like 20, the staff produces the highest level of service which most attempt and annoys me, but they do with such ease, kindness, and... La Rive is located in the Amstel hotel, its traditional, weird but nice services, especially the man that advise the wines. Food is good and location at the canal Amstel is nice. Its not loctaed direct in the centre, but in Amsterdam that is no problem.

The Amstel Hotel is one of the best locations in Amsterdam. The hotel has a beautiful terrace with views of the Amstel River. La Rive is well known and has an excellent menu with wine parings. Not cheap but well worth it and you are certain to have a very nice meal.

We (me and my husband) felt like a royal family there. Such a treat and such a great experience! The food - fantastic! The sommelier`s knowledge and understanding the guests` preferences - unbelievable. They understand that people love being spoiled! It` so simple! The location with the view over one of the canals - perfection. The way they serve cheese... More

The food and service are unparalleled- no one rushes you and even though the food is unbelievably good they don't seem to force it on you or push you to try one thing versus another. The cheese cart was the best I'd ever seen.

We always make an effort to dine in a Michelin restaurant whilst away on holiday and we had booked La Rive based on its reviews and location. I must say, having dined in a number of 3 star restaurants, La Rive really does exceed its one star. From service to the food to the wines etc this was an evening... More

We had diner with another couple. The restaurant is very formal and classical. The food is excellent and the wines coming with it too. We had a 6 course surprise menu and a wine arrangement with it. We asked for dishes favouring red wine and were treated with 2 fish - white wine , 2 meat -red wine, chees -... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
