Great food, great service, great room, great view

What's not to like? Imaginative cooking that doesn't "torture" food; a very good wine list with good inexpensive bottles along with the great ones, a very knowledgeable staff that really wants you to have a good time, and a beautiful room with a beautiful view. Best "blowout" meal in town.

We tried a tasting menu (wagyu version) and could not be more pleased. The food was delicious and interesting. I feared such a posh place would feel stiff but thanks to the amazing and knowledgeable stuff we had so much fun. The food was great but there are many places where you find delicious food but the service was so... More

Dined here by myself and could not have been happier with both the meal and the service. One of the best meals I've ever had ....and overlooking the Amstel Canal. Opted for the six course tasking menus and did not disappoint. At first I didn't do the wine paring bit was glad I changed my mind. It enhanced the food... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the Rive Gauche tasting menu with wines. Food was beautifully prepared with good size portions and lovely wine pairings. Staff were professional and very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Lovely views over the canal. A very nice evening.

We really had no idea how good this experience was going to be when we booked our table. We knew it had a good reputation but seriously we were blown away. The dinner was a masterpiece , we had never had a 5 course set menu before and were a little nervous as some of the food sounded a bit... More

I loved that La Rive is a way out of town and right next to the river. We chose to sit outside and lunch was very calming and relaxing. I found the service to be good and the food was absolutely scrumptious. I had the angus burger with a glass of cava and everything was perfect. Having a view of... More

I booked this as a birthday treat for my wife. Lots of helpful advice on what to eat and which wines to have with the meal, all provided in a very friendly and knowledgeable way without any of that unctuousness you sometimes get in “high-class” establishments. We settled on the Rive Gauche tasting menu which, with additional amusee bouches etc.,... More

It's a lovely restaurant in the Intercontinental Amstel hotel. The location is lovely as it faces the canal. The setting is like a large comfortable sitting room. For a 'posh' hotel and Michelin star restaurant, the staff are very friendly and helpful without being obstrusive, and most importantly, not snobby, like a lot of waiters in famous ( perceived or... Majestic in every way. Including the price but worth every gilder. We both had separate six course chefs menu. With suggested wine pairings...in deed one of the best meals ever. The service probably the best anywhere. And, we have been around the world for over 50 years. The restaurant manager was attentive and extremely person and professional. We were there... More

La Rive is a wonderful restaurant...a magnificent experience. Whether you choose the 5 or 6 course tasting menu the food and the experience is a revelation. Lets start with the service, as fine as you'll experience. Wine list reads like a novel, full of good choices. Even if you think you won't like or don't eat certain choices go with... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
