This place is wonderful. The food is delicious, the service friendly and it is great value. They specialize in Indonesian rijsttafel (little dishes to make up a meal, kind of like tapas), the origins of which are linked to Dutch colonial cuisine. There is plenty to choose from, great for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Not a fine-dining establishment of course... More

the place is very pleasant. Reservations are strongly recommended. The food is good, and an experience of Indonesian cuisine in Amsterdam is a MUST, mostly. The staff is friendly and polite. If I have to find a flaw, perhaps the number of seats, they're too much, but you get used to Amsterdam soon for many people in small spaces. All... More

The food is "an_OK_touristic_Indonesian_gimcrack_food" nothing to write home about, but honest. The bad things are: the horrendously hot ambiance (you can die if they do not switch on the air conditioning...) - the horrendous decorations - the impossible inside noise You can find MUCH better Indonesian in The Netherlands !!!!!!!!!!!

The food was excellent and the atmosphere was decent. Ate there two nights in a row. The prices were better than most places and we got seated in a few minutes without a reservation. Best to book a table before you go

Honestly, I am a regular guy who is a decent cook and loves food. The food here was very disappointing. I equate the food to an Asian meal purchased from a food court (although my wife says the food court may possibly taste fresher). I went to this restaurant because it was recommended by Rick Steves' travel book. Sorry Rick,... More

We went to this restaurant on a recent trip to Amsterdam to try the vegetarian Rijsttafel. We could not believe the quantity and quality of the food that was brought to us - truly delicious! We enjoyed our meal so much that we went back to try a Bami Goreng 'sampler'. The restaurant is very busy so reservations are a... More

For a quick lunch this is one of my favourite spots in Amsterdam. Service heavily depends on the staff working at time of visit. Got good and bad experiences - as in having to wait only 10 minutes for food when the cheery waiter told us the kitchen was very busy, but also in one occassion having to wait 30... More

Rice tables would make you think the rice would be prepared very well, but the steamed/parboiled white rice is CRUNCHY in the middle. I've had parboiled rice before, and the white rice at Kantjil & de Tijger is not even cooked...! Also, the wait was terribly long. However, the nice servers and good flavors of the food do make up... This is a decent restaurant at a very lively yet decent part of Amsterdam. No wonder it was so packed even on a Thu night. The staff is very friendly and well educated about the complex menu. But it's a bit pricey, though I must say it's worth it.

Coming to Amsterdam,4th time. I was in search of a great rijstafell place to take my daughter and friends to introduce them what I think of is one of the quintessential meals here. I read all reviews searching for the right one..boy was I disappointed. We opted for the top of the line. 32 euros a person. So this is... More
