Great Satay and Service Staff

Located right in the heart of Amsterdam, this place offers great Indonesian Cuisine for those who are tired of Dutch food. They have on their menu, the typical Indonesian Rice Table, meaning, loads of dishes served with rice, to be shared among many. Since I was only there for drinks and little... read more

I was surprised to see that TripAdvisor lists Kantjil & de Tijger as only about #800 of Amsterdam restaurants, since it's one of the best-known and most central restaurants in the City. If you want a taste of the Indonesian food that forms part of Dutch heritage, this place is a great choice. In particular, if you want to try... More

It was really busy when we arrived, but they found us a table. The 25 euro banquet was a great feast and decent value. Service was good and we recommend it.

We asked at the hotel about Indonesian restaurants and this was one of their recommendations. We chose this one because it was in an area where, if we couldn't get a table, there'd be other options available. We caught a tram from Centraal station to Spui and the take away shop was right there at the tram stop - you... More

If you're in a big group and are laid back, this place is great. Order some rijstaffels between you all and there is plenty of food. Don't expect fast service though, I had to ask the waitress to take our order and they don't keep an attentive on you in terms of drinks, you have to catch their eye/shout to... More

Booked for Friday evening supper, given a nice table at he back, restaurant pretty near full. Service was good, the place clean and a good atmosphere. This was our second visit over the past 10 years and very enjoyable - we chose the 'bit of everything' option which is very filling, and wondered afterwards whether it might not have been... More

We waited over an hour to be served anything at all. We ordered the most expensive reijstafel and some of it was overcooked.

Great Indonesian food, especially the meat. Your table will get full of small bowls of food pretty fast after you order. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Regarding price, I think it is very reasonably priced given its location. Staff are courteous, knowledgable and attentive, even if the restaurant is almost always full. If possible, reserve in advance.
