Neighborhood gem near city center

Charming Dutch style. Staff speaks English. Outside seating was popular and nice in Aug. 3 course price fixe is very good and reasonable and house wine is just fine. Especially enjoyed the dessert. Seemed popular with locals when we were there and they take reservations.

Had a good 3 course for 35€. Food was tasty and well presented and the housewife was passable for 21€ for half a litre. Large dining room with outside courtyard at the back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here, and it was a bonus that it was a five minute walk from the Amrath Hotel where we were staying. Contemporary interior, interesting and fresh Dutch/European menu with a choice of ordering individual menu items or a set price for 3 courses. Canal views from the tables near the windows, or a courtyard view... More

We went to this restaurant an ordinary Tuesday evening - the place was packed. Fortunately we had reserved a table beforehand. The restaurant is cosy, some of the tables are very close, which some might find annoying. The staff was busy, however, extremely friendly. We had the three course menu. Where you choose three dishes from the menu card. The... More

We've been coming here several times a year for over 10 years now, and consider it one of the best restaurants in the city. The food is inventive and there is always a great vegetarian choice. What else? Great wine, beautiful location and wonderful staff who are consistently welcoming and helpful.

We was recommended this restaurant, and it surly fulfilled all our expectations. We used the on line reservation - in Dutch. Our skills in Dutch isn't very good, and we ended up doing the reservation twice! A short mail solved this problem, and we were warmly welcomed. We were not extremely hungry and ended up with main course and dessert... More

We have been coming to hemelse modder for about 15 years though as visitors to Amsterdam so the last time was 5 years ago. The room has not changed much. It's in a great location overlooking a canal in a quiet area though close to central station. Sure it could do with a lick of paint and the lighting system... More

we picked this restaurant from our guide book & other comments on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. The place is not amazing but the service was extremely friendly & helpful and as we have rather specific dietary requirements they adapted extremely well for us, when the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised. All in all definitely worth a visit.

A couple of streets away from the tourist noise, this restaurant offers a calmer environment to relax and enjoy a good meal. The cuisine is authentic Dutch with a short menu of modern cuisine. With no booking we arrived and were offered a pleasant outside table. Service was friendly. Chicken soup was tasty for starter, as was a delicious duck... More

Delicious food, nicely presented and at a very reasonable price for the amazing quality. Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Nice atmosphere. Make sure you book a table or you will be disappointed.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
