We enjoyed everything very much: the starter, the main course and the very delicious dessert (hemelse modder/ heavenly mud, very good!). The staff is professional in advising the right wine to go with the meal! Afterwards we had a lovely dessert wine on the terrace! High quality and service for friendly prices. I absolutely recommend this restaurant! Thank you for... More

Great food especially the dessert! Had the 3 course set menu, which included a starter, main course and dessert. Quite a bargain for the quality of food and excellent service. The ambiance was lovely. Try to get the seats outside the cafe at the back. Staff was professional and friendly. Of course you have to try the "heavenly mud" dessert,... More

Terrific food and a lovely ambiance. Service a tad slow, but place packed on a Tuesday evening testifies to its excellence. Set price round €40 for 4 courses a good deal. I note it's been going 30 years, starting as a squat: longevity and origins speak well of a real find.

We arrived in our favourite city on a hot and sunny Friday having just had our restaurant of choice cancel the booking. So - to Hemelse Modder, and what a treat. The staff were professional: friendly and informative but not overbearing. A beautifully crisp wine was suggested to accompany smoked sea bass, hake and asparagus, and excellent coffee came with... An informal restaurant with first-rate food at a reasonable price. We chose the 3-course menu. I had the shrimp/salad appetizer; my husband had the pate. Both were excellent - fresh, tasty and well-presented. Same for the main courses. Of course I had the "house" dessert for which the restaurant is named - "heavenly mud" - and it was: dark chocolate... More

We found this wonderful restaurant, close to our hotel, thanks to TripAdvisor. It was fully booked the first night we tried to get in but we did manage to book for the following night. Think we were the only non-locals dining there but the head-waiter spoke wonderful English and made us feel very welcome, even finding us a table in... More

We were doing a home exchange on a converted barge on Oude Waal and our guide book recommended this restaurant .We didn't book and they welcomed us and seated us giving us quite a choice of table . The staff were friendly and informative about the choice of wines and food . The restaurant became very busy despite it being... More

The restaurant is located at Oude Waal, a canal just a block or two away from the central area of Dam and Central station. It has an informal atmosphere, friendly service. After being seated we got an amuse and although it was not very busy at that time, it took quite a while before our orders were taken and again... More

This was a delightful restaurant not to far from the central area of the city. Checking out the website I thought that the food sounded appetising and more regional than a lot of other restaurants in the district. The website is all in Dutch which at least reassured me that it was aimed at local people. I made a reservation... More

Really pleasant restaurant offering good choices, reasonable prices for food and wine, and "Heavenly Mud" for desert. Situated just outside the red light district in a peaceful canal-side location. Attentive and pleasant service, relaxed informal surroundings. Really enjoyed it.
