Stopped here on the way back from "lord in the attic" one early afternoon. It really felt like a local cafe, people dropping in to have a quick bite and well known to the staff. Wonderful experience, good food, typical view of Amsterdam canal side. next time i move house, I hope that the nearest cafe would be like this.

Having studied and living in Amsterdam for over 15 years, this place is well known amongst students, locals and tourist. The cafe looks old fashioned and is located at one of the nicest locations of the Jordaan area. Cafe Thijssen is named after a Dutch teacher Theo Thijssen, who has put his devotion into improving the quality of education and... More

Friendly staff and great variety of beers. Convenient prices and perfect location in Joordan. A dutch model served my first beer... And the second one, I guess it was the owner... She was so nice too... She had visited Argentina and gave me great spanish demonstration... I recommend you to pass by Thijssen for a beer or coffee and snacks...... More

Amazing food! I really enjoyed everything here. Staff are quite busy but friendly and responsive. Real local scene and a great break from the tourist traps of central Amsterdam. I think i was the only "tourist" in the place. Ingredients were very fresh and food was amazingly prepared. Think sandwiches, soups, great for lunch and breakfast. A meal is about... More

This is an excellent cafe which makes you realise that The Dutch do food very well. I had never really known much about Dutch food, but I can tell you having been here a few times - their sandwiches for one are superb. Service is so nice and pleasant. Sitting in the sun with good food, good beer, coffee and... More

This cafe is in a great location right on one of the main canals, with a huge patio and good seating inside also. The food and coffee was great and food portions were huge. Its a shame that due to the poor and unfriendly service, I did not return even though i was staying a block away. I sat down... More

Full of local Dutch people, could have been great but I had to remind them they'd forgotten my order. It wasn't busy an the order was for a croissant with butter. Friends said their rosaries were fairly average too. Cappuccino was lovely but small.
