Cafe Thyssen offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city

Although I visit in Amsterdam now for years, one always learns new things. We (family of 7) had the Easter Sunday Brunch in the Cafe Thyssen on the Brouwersgracht / Lindengracht corner a great place to sit in the sun. Food was average, but you should come here for people watching, not the food... read more

Stopped by two days in a row because we liked it so much. The weather was good enough to sit outside, right next to two canals, and watch the people go by. It's located in the Jordaan area, and although it is quite busy, we managed to find a seat both times. The waiters are very lovely - we ordered... More

When the sun is out, everyone pours onto the cafe pavements and watches the world go by! We battled to find a spot , but got lucky at this cafe. Lovely wines and beer on tap. Food was average, but you are here for people watching, not eating! Lovely staff...albeit slow service, which is common in Amsterdam

This is a friendly neighborhood pub for beers and a rather inexpensive meal with very good food. We came by at the end of the afternoon for a beer and little dutch snacks. Friendly staff, tha cares you are enjoying yourself.

Sitting outside next to a stranger and making friends and drinking beer. It's a great spot to start the day or even just have drink after drink and talk. You will feel like a local not a tourist..

Visited twice whilst on 4 day city break as it was so good. Once for lunch and returned for breakfast. Outside seating in the sun when weather permits. Inside looked as though it hadn't changed much in years. Clean and comfortable cafe style tables in the bar. Friendly staff small choice of breakfasts but very good value and good quality.... More

I loved the location of the place - it's sooo Jordaan, soo Amsterdam, and in a really quiet and serene spot! It's just perfect for an afternoon with friends. And then there is food. Maybe it's not gourmet special stuff you write home about, but their creative take on a classic bitterballen definitely grabbed our attention and made us want... More

Popped in for a drink and were warmly greeted, even thought the place was packed. Barman was very friendly and took the time to explain the area and made great recommendations as to what we should do during our time in the city. Bar snacks looked good so if you’re ever passing and want to take a weight off, you... More

We found this place when walking around Jordaan. It is a very nice and cozy local cafe serving variety of breakfasts. We liked the relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. Their freshly squeezed orange juice was very nice! The cafe itself is in one of the nicest areas in Amsterdam and by 2 beautiful canals.
