Impressive Restaurant

Fancy restaurant in the heart of the red light district. A small, but eclectic menu, the food was well presented with great ingredients and flavours. A very nice wine selection and a notable Dutch gin. May not return, but it was a good experience.

The staff are welcoming and you feel immediately at home and comfortable. The interior is comfortable and you have no idea of the potential craziness of the nearby red light district. The food and preparation are outstanding. I wish I could have had more wine because the little bit I did have was excellent and I would have liked to... More

A fantastic prix-fixe meal! The salmon, pumpkin soup, venison and chocolate soufflé did not disappoint. Service was excellent! Wish my better half was here to share the wonderful experience with me. Definitely will be back on my next layover.

Hidden away in a little court yard in the Red Light District, you 'll find my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. I used to come there quite often, was lured away by other restaurants. But I came back and enjoying the quality of the food and the service I felt almost guilty that I had been away for some time. The... More

I'd read great things about this place and am happy to report the reviews are warranted - blauw aan de wal is a culinary paradise tucked away in the middle of the red light district, and quite affordable given how much other great restaurants charge for a 3-4 course dinner. Highly recommend to any foodies rolling through Amsterdam.

I came with high expectations and was not disappointed. The food is prepared with care and the menu is simple and interesting enough to make you want to experiment each dish. It has two options - 3 dishes or 4 dishes with desert. I say go for the desert and ask for the chocolate soufflé. It is easily one of... More

Again this was a Group outing and the restaurant was suggested to us by a Colleague who is from Amsterdam. This is located in the Red Light district so obviously not a place to go to with kids. The restaurant is smallish and the service ordinary at best. The food options for vegetarians were Italian and I think it was... More

Visited this restaurant on a rainy, cold Saturday night on the recommendation of our hotel. Location is down a small passageway in the red light district but don't let this put you off. Lovely warm welcome, seated downstairs. The atmosphere here is relaxed but professional. Our waiter chatted through the menu with us and wine list. There isn't really a... More

Fine dining in the heart of the Red Light District. As you turn down the alleyway between two of the Red Light Districts more notorious establishments the crowds disappears to be replaced by the inviting garden entrance to the restaurant. The menu was limited, but the execution of the dishes was excellent. The wine selection was the only short coming... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
