Hidden gem

Although a little bit expensive, this place is outstanding. Hidden in the middle of the red light district, offers great cooking and wine. Out of my 6 visits to Amsterdam, the best place so far

We found this hidden restaurant while looking for a non touristy restaurant. Down an alley to a stunning courtyard and restaurant. We did not book so could not eat in the courtyard but were accommodated inside. A really special setting. No menu - you must eat what is prepared which could have been a problem for our vegetarian, but the... More

Reserve in advance. Plan to visit this delightful restaurant on the edge of the red light district. The cod with mussels and fennel was delicious. Excellent service, reasonable price and attentive service. Our group enjoyed the dining experience. We would most definitely recommend this restaurant.

Just off the RLD is an oasis, a diamond in the area's dining choices. Tucked into a nice side alley is this no menu - they'll make whatever great stuff they can get - exquisite restaurant. Asked some questions about local liquors and got a tasting demo of Genevers from Dimitri. Every item served was very delicious and the wine... More

We went in 2012 and were knocked out here by the food and the amazing young maitre d who was fantastic. There were no real bad dishes but it just did not have the wow factor i had when i went then. Bavette was ok and the wine was good value but it seemed less of an adventure of flavours... More

This place was recommended by Dutch colleague so we decided to try it out without checking any reviews. The restaurant is located in the heart of historic Red Light District, but this shouldn't put you off, it's safe & hip. Restaurant is in a renovated old house, and is nicely secluded from it's surroundings. Before even looking in the menu,... More

This restaurant is in a hidden alley in the Red Light District but worth looking for. We did not have a reservation and arrived at the opening and the maître de graciously seated us. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and appreciated the wine selections made by our server. Memorable meal. Can't wait to go back!

this small excellent restaurant in the Redlight district worth a stop. they had small daily choices but we found our favorites dishes. Be Aware of the salty chocolat mousse which we couldn't eat. Familiar and friendly staff on duty.

Service in restaurants in Amsterdam can be a bit rough sometimes. Not here. Very friendly and professional service, with excellent food (small menu, so fresh ingredients), excellent wines in a coosy athmosphere. I should not be writing a positive advice as it will draw more people to this restaurant which I would like to keep to myself.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
