As an Italian, as you might imagine, my food quality standards are remarkably high. Nevertheless having dinner at this restaurant was an interesting experience. The service was good and the food very good as well. I surely recommend it. The price is in line with the food.

As others have pointed out, you wouldn't guess you were about to have a fine dining night given the neighborhood--the Red Light district. But the location is only the first surprise. The food is inventive, delicious, and expertly prepared. The staff are professional, but friendly--we ended dinner with a lengthy discussion of football--the Dutch were playing Argentina that night--and some... More

Of the three upscale restaurants we visited, this one was disappointing. The good was very mediocre. We enjoyed some if the courses, but the fish was very dry and overall the good lacked flavor. The wine list was limited but had some nice selections.

Fine dining in Amsterdam. Just a little off the beaten path, which keeps it quiet. Reservations a must. The menu changes every 2 weeks. Will be heading back there in 3 months. Can't wait. Outside dining if weather permits

Blauw aan de Wal is tucked in an alley in the seedy red light district; you most probably will walk by the place if you are not paying close attention, which is hard to do with the Lupercalian revels taking place in the streets all around you. Once you enter the place it is refreshingly bright, particularly the upstairs rooms... More

Some colleagues and I ate some weeks ago in Blauw aan de Wal. I had seen some good reviews. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not distinguish itself from the most restaurants in Amsterdam. Much pretensions and only mediocre performances. All right, we had some nice food, but nothing really special. Except the price. We had a three course menu for 59... More

Great little restaurant astride the red light district. 3 of us let the staff decide what we would eat, which included outstanding razor clams, tuna and lamb cooked with dates all of which were excellently cooked and delivered un rushed and in a laid back fashion - there is no hurry at this restaurant and your allowed to sit and... This used to be one of my favourite places to take visitors. Great location and cosy with simple and tasty menu. But visiting again after some time, the menu/food were poor. Strange combinations that meant it was difficult for many of us to even find something we liked. Lamb very tough and chewy, People were nice and friendly but would... More

This restaurant was suggested to us by people we met for the first time in Amsterdam. And what a surprice. A little hard to find maybe because it is located in a back yard. You probably have to reserve a table because of the popularity. The menu is rather simple, you choose between two 3 or 4 course meals. The... More
