We were looking for a casual, comfy restaurant that caters more to locals than tourists and found it with Cafe De Koe. The food quality and service was very good (seems to be family run). I definitely recommend the spareribs.

Warm, dark, local tavern serving fresh and tasty snacks. We had oysters on the half shell...cold, clean and dee-lish! Crispy chips with ketchup, lightly salted and hot from the fryer. Cold beer and cokes. Many locals sitting with us at the bar.

Just around the corner from out hotel, the cafe was an excellent choice for dinner. Fresh tasty food at a reasonable price.

This is a small restaurant and a very nice surprise. The food was great!! my meat was spot on, as well as my potato gratin and dessert.

We ate here on our first night in Amsterdam and weren't disappointed. It was very quite when we arrived (around 6.30pm) but was filling up nicely as we ate. The setting is small but nice and cozy and the staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was really nice and affordable. I'd definitely recommend this place.

I went there before a concert a while ago and I had the best steak I had in a LONG time. The rest of the meal was up to scratch too, but just go for beef.

Nice intimate place in the basement with excellent food. I had a carbonara which was perfectly al dente and a fresh salad.

We love the variety of main courses there are and they are interesting - chicken sate, deer steak, spaghetti with homemade sausage, game hen with beans. Always delicious for around $15-20 Euro. Even room at the back for a group of ten. Make reservations if you are going between 6-10 p.m.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
